I am looking to upgrade my groupo to SRAM Rival Black (may opt to get the Red shifters). Last year I bought the Shimano R700 compact crank, but never put it on the bike - still in box. My question, should I buy the SRAM groupo minus the crank/ BB and use the Shimano? Or buy the SRAM groupo and ebay the R700? (Note that the R700 is a 172.5 and I ride a 170). Thanks.
If you ride a 170, there’s your answer.
I don’t have either crank you mentioned, but have D/A, Red, Force, and FSA cranks on various bikes. The D/A is the stiffest, but I’m not sure that it’s enough to make any difference. The pinch bolt design doesn’t come loose, so I think it’s a better design. My FSAs have come loose and the SRAM design is similar.
I like Campy’s Ultra-Torque, too. So, if I were buying new cranks, I’d go with Shimano or Campy.
Thanks. My fitter said that there will be minimal difference between the two, even suggested I could switch to the larger cranks, if I wanted.
I was just curious if the Rival Black crank was considered superior to the Shimano R700 (which is supposed to equal the Ultegra line)
If someone blindfolded you, neither you nor the clock would never be able to tell the difference between the crank arm length or the type of crank.
Worry about something else.
Also, no need to get the RED shifters - the carbon Rivals have the same features/function.
