Compact crank issues on p2

Put a compact on my p2 and I’m having shifting issues. I’ve got it adjusted all the way down, but it still seems like it should be down a bit further. Anyone have any suggestions?

You’ve got ‘what’ adjusted all the way down? Are you talking about the front derailleur?

What year P2 do you have?
What drivetrain are you running?
What is the size of your largest chainring your compact? …If it’s smaller than 50t, that might explain some of your issues.

If your P2 is an earlier model you might need to get 52/36 chainrings for it to work. The earlier models didn’t have the FD tab low enough to work with 50/34 chainrings.

Likely need a SRAM Force FD with 2 position set bolt to get it low enough.
Cheers!

This. Pick up a cheap Force FD, as those can go much lower. It will work with any other groupset.

I have a Shimano Dura-Ace front dereilleur on my 2009 P2, and it works flawlessly with my Shimano compact crank. Large frame size.

Wow, that was a crappy first post. I’ll provide a little more info now:
2008 p2c, ultegra drivetrain with fsa slk light quarq crank, 50/34.

it’s a 2008 p2c - is that too early?

not sure, but could be.
chainrings are easy to swap if that is the problem, and the force derailleur is a good option too.

I had a 2009 P2C and ran a FSA SLK compact crank on it without issue. I even had an ultegra drivetrain on it too.

If you can’t move the front dearailleur down any more, it may just be that the FD braze-on mount is simply too high.

I agree with the other suggestions: Any SRAM FD will give you the flexibility to make it all work. I don’t have any preference for Apex, rival, etc. as they all do the same thing in the end.

I’m hesitant, but will also suggest looking at the Shimano CX70 FD. My only concern is that it still won’t get the FD close enough to the crank.

Thanks everyone, been thinking of going to 52/36 anyway, might just do that.

Don’t forget to get your Quarq calibrated if you do that.

Anyone have any suggestions?

Get rid of compact crank and install 53/39 chain rings.

Is there a big gap >2.5mm between the ring and derailleur? Only then will bigger rings address the root cause.

2007 P2C, Shimano FC-R700 Compact Crankset, 50/34, Dura-Ace Front & Rear Der., 12-25 Ultegra cassette, have run Ultegra, KMC and Dura-Ace chains - zero issues. Some chain clang only on 34/12 cross chaining but should not be riding down there anyways.

Except the OP is not having problems with his chain, he is having problem with his front derailleur not going low enough…
