Does anyone know anything about the LPIM Community Fund Slots for $1000. I’ve called the numbers given at the site but was only told that Sue Frazer can answer my questions. She hasn’t answered my emails. Everyone that has done the Placid Ironman knows most hotels are booked for the following year. Should someone be at a disadvantage because they want to help the community? This doesn’t seem fair. Any help would be appreciated.
when I did IMC’01 I entered as a community slot . . . don’t really know what to tell you other than it was $1000 (canadian) and I filled out a different entry form . . . I do believe it’s tax deductible as a charitable donation.
I and GF are doing IMFL on Community Fund slots. It was $400.00 for the entry fee (not deductible) and $600.00 for the Community Fund donation (deductible). The form was on the website, but first I E-mailed to see if there were any left. There were 3, at that time, and I Fedex’d in the money and form. Our names are on the list of Participants, so I guess we are “in”.
Thanks for your responses… I’ve been checking the web site everyday and the community fund slots have not become available yet. I was wondering how long it took them to get that option on line. I’ve emailed everyone and called the Florida Headquarters without any luck. I was told to be PATIENT! Can you believe it!!! Be patient… I don’t know if we will be able to get a room in the village at this point because most of them are booked up already. We also have family and friends to think about plus many other issues to be thought out. Does anyone know how many slots will become available? Also, how long did it take them to post the names of those accepted once you mail back the form? Thanks for your help.
I wouldn’t worry about the lodging. Plenty of spaces open up. You shouldn’t have a problem if you get in the race.
Are you talking to Melody Givens?
Melody Givens
That’s who we dealt with for IMFL. But if they are not available yet, as you say, what do you expect them to do?
I entered Lake placid in december last year thru a community slot and got a hotel in march… plenty of people cancel their hotel room, especially around deadline time… I looked up yesterday, looks like there are STILL community slots for Ironman canada 2004… and the race is weeks away… I don’t think you have to worry about it… They gave me a shirt, a hat, and a racing outfit that doesn’t fit! Besides that, nothing is different…
Thanks for your posts… I feel a bit relieved. However, I would expect them to make the community slots available the day after, exactly like the general entry.
I guarantee that you can get a room at the Holiday Inn. They had rooms available on race weekend this year. It’s ridiculuously pricy, but it’s a place to stay right downtown. And if you call the Best Western on January 1st and go on the waiting list, you WILL get a room there. You just have to be patient and wait until May, when people start cancelling.
I’d favor the Best Western. It’s less expensive than the Holiday Inn, and there’s no hill to climb.
Relax. Be patient. I qualified for IMLP this year on June 20th (i.e. month before race). I called the Holiday Inn LP Resort (i.e. next to transition area) the following week and there were lots of cancellations.
When people sign up for a race a year in advance lots of rooms will become available in mid June.
Cheers!
