Comments on the DA FC-7800 Cranks

I am looking at the FC-7800 DA double cranks as an upgrade. I currently have the Octalink triple. These DA cranks are selling on Ebay with a Buy it Now of $249.99. 53/39 chainrings and BB included. Sounds like a good deal. Any thoughts or opinions out there?

The 7800 is not the very lightest, but it is a very stiff, solid feeling piece of gear. I had some FD rubbing under load with my DA 7700 octalink crank and it disappeared with the 7800. I had always thought it was frame flex… I was sure wrong.

That’s a pretty good price. They’re still over $400 from PBK.

I wouldn’t hesitate at all. I have the DA7800 crank on my TT bike and it is the best crank I’ve ever had the pleasure of riding. (I stiffened it up further by swapping the outer chainring for a Stronglight Contre La Montre plate.) In absolute terms its stiffness is second probably only to the new DA7900 crank.

I love mine. I have the crappy FSA Gossamer cranks on my tri bike, and the DA 7800’s on my roadie. The Gossamers feel like a brick compared to the DAs.

Also, look for some used ones off of fleabay if price is a concern (and when isn’t it, reallY?). I bought mine used for $125 with shipping and BB off of ebay. Just sayin’. Good luck!

Thanks. That’s what I needed to hear. I am in no hurry, so I may just wait for a good used deal to come up as well. Thank you for the feedback.
