I’m traveling to a conference at Colorado Springs 25-29 June. It’s my first visit to CS so I need some good run routes (and perhaps running mates) for the few days I’ll be there. Any help is appreciated.
Where are you staying? If you are in the Broadmoor or SW side of town then Cheyenne Canyon can’t be beat for trail running.
Yeah, depends on where you’re staying and if you have a car or not. Post here or you can PM me.
I’ll be at the Marriott. I’ll have a rental car. I definitely want to find some GOOD running…not city streets!
If it’s the one on Tech Center, you’re pretty close to Garden of the Gods…pretty much a must-do for visiting runners. Just park in the main parking lot and cross the street to the trails and go left. Pretty hard to get lost in there, just use the giant red rocks as a marker ; ) You can also head up the road to Woodmen Rd, just west of Corporate Drive is one of the trailheads (small parking lot) for the Front Range Trail. Head north towards the Air Force Academy. Nice out-n-back on a rolling fire road that runs along a stream/small river. Endless miles of trail without any cars or road crossings. There are plenty of other options, too, like Red Rock, Bear Creek and so on but they are a bit further from the hotel. I’m sure some of the others have more options, too.
Yeah if it is the Mariott on Tech Center then there is a trail literally from the back of the hotel to Ute Valley Park which is decent running. I’d branch out and go other places too, like the Garden, Cheyenne Canyon, etc. If you have a bit of extra time go do Waldo Canyon which is off Hwy 24 past Manitou Springs.
Thanks Shawn and Nelo…I’ll be checking out those runs. I’ll have to check, but I believe that is the right Marriott.
