Collegiate nationals (2)

Question: My friend wants to compete at collegiate nationals. She is a full time college student, but her school does not have a team. Can she compete as an individual? Thanks.

pretty sure your school needs a team or some kind of club. Im not 100% on that though

Yes, she can enter as a team of 1. Because Collegiate Triathlon is very team related, she will have to start a team on her own. Here’s what she’ll need to accomplish:

  1. Become a recognized student organization at the school.
  2. Register her team with her conference.
  3. Register her team with USAT.
  4. Signup for Nationals.

You can find out what conference her school belongs to on USAT’s website. Or if you tell me what school, I can give you the necessary contact info of the Collegiate Commissioner in her conference. PM me if you need any more information, I’ll be glad to help in any way possible.

Are you sure #1 is necessary. Last year me and a buddy raced and we were a recognized student organization.

We just registered with USAT and the conference. I wish they had the USAT set up like it is now last year, we would have saved some money.

Now we are a recognized student organization but we won’t have anybody racing at Nationals this year.

Yes, I know in my conference it is necessary. I think most of the conferences have similar membership applications that require faculty adviser, university contacts, etc. but it might not be uniform yet across the board. Things have changed a lot since last year with regards to competing at USAT Collegiate National Championships. Besides, being recognized by your school can provide great funding resources!

From your name I can see that you are at the SECTC. My school is too. I don’t know if the information about the faculty adviser and all is really requirer since one of the questions is: Are you an officially recognized campus group?

It is definitely better to be a recognized organization for funding like you said. But depending of the school rules it can be a time consuming thing and a pain. It took me a hole semester to get things done at my school. I started the paperwork in August and we won’t be able to get funded until the Summer.

Hah, I wish! Our school doesn’t seem to give us jack $#!7, AND we had the women’s champion last year.

Oh…wait…I mean, I love my school, it’s great!

Thanks so much! She is thinking about starting a club! All she needs to do is get university approval, i dont know how long that takes. I am guessing it’s different for each school.
