The SEC bias will end in 2027, when their contract with ESPN ends. They don’t even attempt to hide it anymore, it is pretty funny how ESPN talking heads are constantly having to publicly talk about how there is no bias.

I’ve never been a fan of the SEC-ESPN relationship. Sure, the SEC is good, but the investment by ABC is going to develop a self fulfilling prophecy.

If you’re a nationally talented high schooler where are you going to go? I’d probably go to the school getting the free publicity, nationally televised games, and a routine spot on the nightly top10.

I worry that the problem isn’t now, but 5-10 years from now.

Wah wah wah wah SEC bias. Wah wah wah.
ESPN love the SEC.
So does the Nationwide AP poll.
So does the coaches poll
So does bleacher report.
So does CBSsports.

Now the committee loves the SEC (this week).

Keep telling yourself there is a bias when it is overwhelmingly clear who coaches, sports winters, pundits and a committee think is the best.

This would be less of a problem if they would just create a real 16 team playoff.

So what part of the Confederacy do you hail from?

What would your rankings look like?

What would your rankings look like?

I would leave out FSU due to their issues with their QB. . . .I would take ND (and I can’t believe I wrote that), SEC champion, PAC 10 champion (only if two or less losses), and then a pick’em between Big 12 and Big 10 champion (right now leaning towards MSU especially if they blow out OSU). If I HAD to include FSU I would throw the PAC 10 in the pick’em (depending on how the SEC plays out).

Current top four

FSU (provisional)
Miss State
Oregon
ND
TCU/MSU

Do you even understand what bias means? Just because you don’t agree doesn’t mean there is a bias.

Do you understand long term television contracts? Just because you nod along like a bobblehead as they slobber all over the SEC every moment doesn’t mean they don’t have bias.

But I notice you didn’t admit you may have some bias yourself.

What do long term contracts have to do with how the non-ESPN committee selected things? If you are implying that espn influenced them, then provide support to your claim. Otherwise its a bunch of bunk.

If we were talking about the espn poll, then it would make sense. Like i said, writers, coaches, pundits and now a committee have all voted similarly. Thats the opposite of bias. That’s pretty much consensus. But keep telling yourself that there is a universal bias.

As to my bias, you wouldn’t know, because I didn’t offer my opinion.

FSU is the defending champion and has not lost. You can’t leave them out until they lose. So they are in.
ND lost to FSU and are the most overrated team of all time - consistently - out.
How long has it been since the SEC (or FSU) won a national championship? Seems like 2 SEC teams make sense. SEC Champ and if its Georgia, the team that loses to Georgia in the SEC Championship.
One left - Doesn’t really matter, but take the pac 10 winner.

Or you could settle down and realize that the SEC west will continue to cannibalize each other until there is only one maybe two teams in the top 6. Auburn plays Ole Miss this weekend and Alabama at the end of the year, MissState still has to play Alabama and Ole Miss, etc… ESPN has you all by the balls and it’s laughable - we still have 5+ weeks of regular season games + conference championship games. The rankings are meaningless until the end of the season.

And how is ESPN supposed to “fix” this supposed issue? You do realize the new rankings are put together by an independent committee which includes a former Secretary of State, Athletic Directors from every major conference, a former Air Force General, a retired CFB reporter and a few retired coaches, right?

And for anyone complaining about the East/West coast bias, the biggest issue is time zone. I love college football, but I can’t remember the last time I stayed up to watch a 10pm Oregon or Stanford game. It sucks, but the only way to fix the issue is to have more neutral field, non-conference match ups throughout the season.

(If they didn’t have all the off field issues of raping and beating women “allegedly”) I would agree with you.

I saw them play FSU and they out played them and should have won IMO.

So you are rewarding past performance this year? Why not have Army in there too?

You really think a team should drop because they lost to a peer team? If that’s the case why are they ranked where they are? I don’t think the cannibalization is an automatic dropping of teams.

They gotta guy. The people picking the teams don’t live in a bubble and if ESPN starts bitching at the conferences then the AD’s on the commission will hear and they will let the rest of the “jury” know.

And…there is the tinfoil hat conspiracy theory. Who new that a former Secretary of State was for sale. Who knew that USC AD pat Haden would sell out his own conference. Yep, a Lt. general in the Air Force…espn must have gotten to him.

The irony of course is that the committee had an SEC person step down in the last week and NOT participate in the discussion. But, I get it ESPN has a guy and there is a nationwide bias. Uh-huh.

I saw this article yesterday afternoon: bleacher reports blind assessment. http://bleacherreport.com/articles/2245594-blind-college-football-playoff-resumes-for-the-top-10-contenders?utm_source=cnn.com&utm_medium=referral&utm_campaign=cnn-sports-bin&hpt=hp_bn15

Yikes, SEC bias again. Even when their eyes were closed. Or did ESPN get to their competitors too? You would think that if BR was trying to make a name for themselves they might go against the grain. Oops. Looks like as of right now, their bias is showing too.

**You really think a team should drop because they lost to a peer team? If that’s the case why are they ranked where they are? I don’t think the cannibalization is an automatic dropping of teams. **
Yes, and that’s the way it’s always been - multiple losses in CFB is a very bad thing for your ranking, especially at the end of the year. You can quote me on this right now - at the end of the day there will be a MAXIMUM of one two loss team in the playoff and I actually think ZERO two loss teams will make the playoff. I’d say FSU, Oregon, one SEC team and either TCU/KSU/MSU will be the final four with Notre Dame being very close behind. The worste case scenario for the committee is for Aub/Ala/Miss to have two losses and then have a one loss MissState team lose to UGA in the SEC title game - THAT would be very difficult to figure out.

This is laughable. I’ll just let you keep trolling…

So did you guys like it better when Notre Dame or Michigan were being chosen the winner of everything every year?

3 of the 4 are SEC teams. . . .Do they just want people not to watch? ESPN better get this fixed or ratings will suck.

I think what they want is a playoff of the 4 most deserving teams. That makes sense, right?

If you look at a team’s best wins and at their loss if they have one I think the committee mostly got it right. I think you could argue Oregon over Ole Miss if you’d like but I think the Reb’s win over Alabama is better than Oregon’s win over Michigan State and their losses are similar (LSU and Arizona).

FSU is the defending champion and has not lost. You can’t leave them out until they lose. So they are in.

That is just stupid. The rankings are for the best football team, not the one without players who do stupid and sometimes illegal stuff. If you eliminated all the teams that have players who break the law or do stupid stuff - there wouldn’t be enough teams to have a 4 team playoff.
