Colbert ridiculing crybaby Glenn Beck

Worth a watch if you aren’t a Glenn Beck worshiper.

Funny stuff, Beck is closing in on moonbat status.

Beck is passionate. I’ll say that. And Colbert is funny. I’ll also say that. Both have equally insightful points of view. I guess it just depends on which point you think is actually more relevant to the debate we’re having in this country about a number of important issues. Significant portions of the population seem to agree with the observations and beliefs espoused by both these gentlemen, to be truthful.

Do you really find Beck “insightful?” I have trouble watching him ramble for more than a couple of minutes. As soon as he starts in on things the “mainstream media won’t tell you” I have to switch. It’s hard to take anyone seriously who rails against the mainstream media from his comfy perch on Fox News after he left CNN. It doesn’t get much more “mainstream” than that.

I didn’t say “insightful” in the way you think I did, skipper. I think I mean more that he has a passion that drives his insight. I can respect that, like I can respect Keith Olbermann for his obvious passion. Apparently, a large group of people find Beck interesting enough to allow him and the others at Fox News to dominate their individual time slots over fellow broadcasters at CNN, CNBC and MSNBC. But I don’t mistake popularity and propinquity for ultimate rightness. I just recognize that the two are powerful drivers when it comes to how we form our own opinions.

Oh but those large groups of people…they also find nascar interesting! and WWE

Passion doesn’t mean much to me when it’s misdirected.

Your elitism smacks of a disdain for the commonalty. I find that disheartening. These are the people, after all, who are bearing the brunt of our current economic misfortune and who pay the vast majority of the tax bill, come every April 15th. At least here in the U.S. they do. Maybe we find the Bronte sisters (part of the great English Canon) and Proust to be interesting, or the idea of careening down a hugely steep hill on a skinny tri bike with a disc wheel on the back (like I did last October, at the Great Floridian  to be intriguing, but they might not. And I respect that, the same as I respect the self-irony and meaning in a song by Arcade Fire, for instance. In other words, it’s all good, bro :-))

You don’t agree that passion is to be savored? I think as long as you’re not hurting yourself or somebody else with it, it’s a fine thing. And if folks allow themselves to more closely resemble “sheeple,” to be led around by their baa-baa black sheep noses, then shame on them.

T.

“You don’t agree that passion is to be savored?”

Not for it’s own sake. Passion is only as important as the cause to which it is applied. I’m certain any number of Islamic terrorists are passionate.

Well Limbaugh is somewhat of an arrogant ass, and O’Reilly is a fairly arrogant ass…but Olberman is an utterly arrogant ass. The arrogance factor is a difference that will help make Glenn Beck the next big name in talkers, he exhibits less of it while hitting on many of the issues that frustrate most Americans. If you invest in Glenn, you’ll do well.

It isn’t disdain, its just that what enthralls the common masses isn’t necessarily interesting to me unless I am trying to take advantage of them in some way…

like it seems glen beck is, I’m not entirely buying his ‘passion’.

It seems like an act.
I could be wrong!

I’m thinking it’s an act. I would watch his ramblings every so ofen lat year. He’d start off with a reasonable topic, something you might somewhat agree with, and eventually devolve into an “everything sucks, it’s all changed!!” rant. He’s the excitable chihuahua (younger ‘n yippy) to Lou Dobbs’ staid and disapproving bulldog (that perpetual “you disgust me” motif).

I appreciate the Islamic terrorist for his passion, too. It’s when we disregard it or think it misdirected that we lose the initiative and are unable to form a good defense or offense. This is the case as much for those menookis (gay sonsabitches, basically) as it is for Beck or Olbermann and the rest.

X2

I wouldn’t call Olbermann an *arrogant *ass. He’s more of a self-righteous ass.

O’Reilly fall squarely into both categories.

Beck’s arrogance will rear its ugly head as he gets more popular, just like the other guys. There should be some kind of “arrogant ass” meter for all talking heads in the mainstream media (which they are all part of).

I’ve only watched one of his programs, the Tibbs linked here. It was on the controversy of global warming. If you can find the thread (I haven’t), you can see very specifically how he is either ignorant or dishonest in his reporting methods. It’s fine if you have a dissenting view, but you still must use a proper process for presenting information if you want to be seen as a purveyor of truth. At least in the one case I’ve reviewed, Beck had no such process or interest in truth. That’s not arrogance or anything like that, just an effort to use controversy to get ratings.

Beck is a whack-job…or very poor actor

Not if you have your faith, and apparently there are a lot of people that base their decisions and political leanings on that alone. It is why he is still on tv I would guess. I used to watch him ocasionally(once or twice a week) when he first hit CNN, and he seemed like a reasonable guy, with some valid points. Just like I thought of Rush when I first heard him over 20 years ago. But he has jumped the shark so to speak, and he quite possibly could get more popular because of it. Not with the masses, but with a small niche group that sometimes is not so small…
