Since moving to california, I’ve become a full on crack addict when it comes to coffee. Before I got here, I hardly ever drank anything with caffeine in it. Now, I down 2-3 cups of pete’s before I leave for work in the morning, boss usually has a pot going when I get there, so another cup or 2, then by 1-2 one of our clients will always bring us starbucks. So how much does everyone else out there guzzle down? The weekends, are even worse for me. I think I had 4 cups before my ride this morning, and then another 3 at lunch.
MMMMMMM… Coffee. Sometimes the promise of a good cup in the morning is the only thing that gets me in bed at night
Im equally as bad as you, luckily for me though its hot as heck here, so my addiction has switched from coffee to redbull and the like.

I love coffee-flavored candies (Haagse Hopjes), coffee-flavored ice cream, and the smell of coffee beans… but I’ve only tasted coffee once and thought it was the nastiest stuff I’d ever tasted… so, for me: zero ![]()

WOW! Maybe you need to try something else? I truly feel bad for you. I think your missing out on one of lifes greatest pleasures. Like Ti said, coffee helps me go to sleep, just thinking about it in the morning. I love the stuff, the more I drink the more I get addicted to it. Oh, its like crack!
LOL… I know… to many my coffee-free lifestyle is heresy! To me, it’s a blessing … especially in the mornings when I see those who haven’t gotten their full dose plodding along while I’m already at full speed ![]()
A couple of cups in the AM before heading out.
A venti drip black from one of the three Starbucks between the pool and work.
Maybe a nonfat grande latte in the afternoons. Or a cup from the pots at work (Peets).

I only have one or two… pots of coffee a day.
I drink about 5-6 cups in the morning before work. Then sometimes another 1-2 after that while at work at my desk. No more coffee after 2 PM. On the weekends I usually have 7 cups in the morning before my bike ride and then usually no more coffee for the rest of the day.
I cup of espresso in the morning. Its not that I cannot function w/o it, however I will get a bitch of a headache by mid morning if I don’t drink it daily. Its a relatively benign monkey to have on my back.
Mmmm… two espressos before work, a couple of regular cups during the day, and one latte after dinner. Just bought a Nespresso machine after “wife-pressure”… Man - it actually makes fantastic espressso:

I drink from the time I get until I come home from work… funny thing is, I hardly drink any during the weekends… Hell, I’d fill my camel back with the stuff for my long rides if I didn’t think it would scortch the sh*t out of my back!
I only drink one or two cups which is about 5 cups of mocha coffee. Heres what I use:

I too am bad, to me, a serving is a 28oz french press…x 2-3 per day:-)
Paulo once threatned my life if I did not find him a starbucks in Cambridge MA, so I think he consumes a fair bit too.

Yes, Paulo does - I’ve seen it at a Starbucks in Mariemont, OH … AFTER a bike ride on a hot day in fact.
I’m not completely addicted to coffee, but I sure like it in the am. I do, however, get a low grade headache as well when I try to taper before a race or go off caffeine.

I’m not trying to be cute, seriously doesn’t it bother any of you to be so obviously deeply addicted to caffeine? As a non-coffee drinker it seems to me pretty much the same as back in the day when everyone smoked? No judgements passed, drink/smoke whatever you want and I’ll love 'ya for it, but it’s the loss of control to a drug that strikes me as something not to like?
Numerous studies have shown benefits to the consumption of coffee, both related to caffeine, and the antioxidants in the coffee. So I don’t think the correlation to cigarettes is fair.
But it is definitely addictive. I get horrible headaches when I try to stop. I do it every once in awhile, but then finally come to the conclusion of- no harm, no foul. And I do love a cup of coffee in the morning.

Yeah, but back in the day there were ‘studies’ showing that cig smoking had benefits too. I remember even when I raced as junior in the '80s there was a lot of discussion about a study that supposedly showed smoking would improve your ability to process O2 because of a sort-of hypoxic effect.
To me it seems obvious? Even your post starts with one paragraph saying coffee caffeine is beneficial and then follows up with a paragraph about how miserable you sometimes feel due to an addiction to caffeine. My question is, why would anyone knowingly allow themselves to become addicted and subject themselves to ‘horrible headaches’ etc?
Not to mention the financial cost or the grip caffeine has on their (your?) life. Again, as a non-coffee drinker, I clearly remember first becoming aware of this during college when women I was ‘dating’ would allow nothing (except maybe sex) get in the way of their first morning dose of caffiene. It seemed to be so obviously the same as any other drug addict except that caffeine was socially accepted (and legal).
It seems to me to be such an obvious of loss of control a substance? Why would anyone want that? Presence of physical responses to withdrawal, need to ‘justify’ irrational expense of habit, denial of health impact, etc? How is being addicted to caffeine now really any different than people who were addicted to cocaine back when that was legal (and even included in coca-cola)? Cigarettes? Pain killers?
