Coeur d'Alene Water Temp?

Anyone have any idea? I know it hasn’t been that warm there, and a couple of years ago I measured it at a chilly 46* just a month out from the race. A warm streak saved us that year, but now…?

My friends swam yesterday and the report was not good. They said it was cold and very choppy! Last year it was in the upper 50s a week before the race and then a hot last week raised the lake temp to 62-64 which was perfect for a full suit. This year we need a little help from mother nature because it’s still really cold!

Good luck!

anymore word on the current temp out there??

Last I heard, COLD!! :frowning:

yeah its really cold! i went swimming a couple of days ago and i got a headache after a little while, and its not suppose to warm up anytime soon : (

I’ll try and go down and measure it tonight after work.

The colder and nastier the better! Swimmers need some kind of advantage since it is so darn short! Now let’s pray for some cool weather on the run…

Bump.

did you get a chance to measure the water temp last night?

This is 2.5 miles upstream - so probably a little colder than the lake.

To convert Celsius = (9/5 times Celsius) + 32. Currently 55 degrees upstream.

Thanks for the link jasinsf. So maybe 60 in the lake??

I have a full suit, but I would at least like it to be low 60’s!

A friend measured it today next to the shore at 58! We need some warm weather next week or it’s going to be a chilly swim. It’s not looking to good for water temps above 60. Last years mid 60s are looking pretty good about now.

do they make gloves to wear???

The hands are ok, however the “ice cream headache” is the problem. A neo cap and ear plugs can make a huge difference. Some people will also wear multiple swim caps to keep in the heat.

I dunno, the hands can be a problem for me anyway. When I jump the gun in SF Bay, after about 40 minutes I can’t keep any form to my catch and my fingers just flutter through the pull. I definitely lose some oomph from my stroke with the floppy hands.

The neoprene cap, the ear plugs, the extra cap all are good ideas. I know the rules say no fins, no aqua socks…how about neoprene booties?

By the way, when should we do a roll call? Me and the family are hitting the road this Saturday and I may not see a computator 'til CdA.

I heard from IM Staff it was measured yesterday at 59. It will heat up to mid 60’s I bet though…

currently 59 upstream

i’ll be bringing my hot cap
.

May try to go get a neo cap at the local tri shop tonight. Does one just wear the neo cap underneath the race cap?

You must wear the neo cap under the swim cap! Z

Cold water swimming will be a new experience for me. At what water temp would it be a good idea to wear a neo cap?

I realize the answer will be different for everyone.
