I’m trying to build a cockpit for my Cervelo Soloist.
The requirements are as follow:
Possibly based on the Syntace C2, but if there’s something cheap and much better (ie more set-up possibilities) so…;
Comfortable enough to be used during a full IM;
As aero as possible;
Best bang for the buck.
So, what I need is basically the base bar, the end-bar shifters and the brakes… Here where I live, there’s no possibility to test anything, I have to order online
#1, get an aero-profile basebar (since these stick out in the “clean” air while you’re in the aero bars). The Vision alum. basebar is aero, lightweight, and good enough for the world TT champ to use. The syntace are good aerobars for a “comfort” position, and reasonably low weight. One option are the HED cliplites that are a bit lower to the basebar, about 100g lighter and hyper adjustable. All of the above can easily be found on e-bay. If you go with the 26.0 stem versions there are lots of great deals.
Unless you’ve got a -30deg stem or similar your current choice of hardware (tall Soloist headtube + high-stack C2s) will go a long way to ruling out point 3 on body position alone.
If you can bring yourself to part ways with your current bars, the old faithful Visiontech (alloy) basebar & extensions matched with alloy SRAM levers & shifters from the groupset of your choice will cover all your requirements.
I don’t get it, has showponey seen you positioned on this soloist?
Anyway, the answer is that you already have the frame so now it will require a well chosen set of base/aero bars to put you in the right position. I think you need to know exactly where your elbow pads need to be and go from there. ie. given your choice of bike how high above the head tube and how far fore/aft of that head tube do your arm rests go? That may dictate your options right there.
The HED Clip Lite look very nice, but they’re quite expensive and I want my 2yo daughter to still have food on the table and nice dresses and dolls
I think I’ll go with the Vision basebar. The Dura Ace shifters will be there as well, but what about the aerobars and the brakes? Looking for an S-shape which would offer as much set-up as possible at a good price… For the brakes, I have no idea about the compatibility between the different tube sizes…
