Clydesdale Wheelset - Zipp 404?

I’m a proud Clydesale (240#, 6’6") and would like to hear other’s experience with wheelsets. I generally go through a rear wheel every year and have most often fallen back to the Mavic Open Pro 32 spoke. I have considered buying the Zipp 404, but am a little scared of the price and hate to gamble that much money on a wheel that will not last more the a season or two.

Anyone have similar experience or sucess with the Zipp wheelset? What about other wheelsets for us bug guys?

Thanks,

Dew

I’m in the same boat at 6’6" but a little lighter at 210. For tri and TTs I use H3s and have had zero problems with them in any conditions. Utterly bombproof. However, I am getting back into road racing next year and am looking for some aero road wheels for that and am considering the 404s. I know that HED is now specing wheels for heavier guys and I’ll consider them with the 404s or even 606s. I even train on an older 36 spoke wheelset that isn’t pretty but I can pretty much ride off a cliff with them.

Right now I am at 6’3" and 220 and I ride hed 3’s, no problems and for training my vistas do me just fine
.

Look at the Zipp 404 Clydesdale model. Its a beefed up version of the standard 404’s.

H3’s will serve you no problem. You can also order HED Stinger 50, 60 or 90 in the EX (Clydesdale) version
