You can whatever kit you want to any ride you want. All it is is a group of people getting together for a workout. They will be much more concerned with you riding predictably and not sketchy than what you’re wearing. Since you’re new, people will be more than happy to help you learn how to ride in a group. Go to any ride you want (just be sure that they’ll be going the speed you want to go).

Additionally when you are looking for a group to go out with be sure to choose one that will ride at a pace comfortable for both of you. In many cases as the groups get faster and faster they are much less nurturing toward less experienced riders. The pacing of a ride is important. If possible look for “no drop rides”. This will help bring you into the fold much more gradually and as you get more comfortable then search out faster groups to further challenge yourselves.
