Clinton has some baggage that makes me think Kerry shouldn’t be seen in the same room with him. On the other hand we had some relatively good times while Clinton was president.
It appears they think it will help Kerry with African-American voters but seems to me like it could go both ways in other voters’ minds.
Partisan BS aside, do you think this is a good or bad thing for Kerry?
Clinton’s going to spend his time in Philly, where he’ll try to close the deal for Kerry in the heavy-Democrat city and the surrounding suburbs (but not exurbs). Kerry’s using a “fortress” approach with PA. Defend a few of the large cities and that ought to be enough to overcome the “Red” forces in the outstate areas.
It worked for Gore in Michigan in '00, where he lost big everwhere in the state but Detroit/Ann Arbor and Flint/Saginaw. Grand Rapids and Battle Creek/Kalamazoo were more equivocal. Michigan incumbernt senator Spencer Abraham was defeated by challenger Debbie Stabenow in the same manner. Abraham enjoyed a large lead until the tri-county Detroit area started reporting results. Then it was “cancel Christmas” for old Spence.
I came tothe opposite conclusion. It won’t do jack.
The same people that liked clinton are probably the same people that have already decided to vote for Kerry.
If anything it is just going to clarify that Kerry isn’t quite as conservative as he’s claimed to be.
