Climbing Techniques? Dan?

I remember reading an article that dan wrote a while back about climbing.
He believed that sitting in the aerobars and spinning was more efficent than sitting up and pedalling?
anyone know where i can find the link? or dan, if this is true, why it is true?
Thanks,

“climbing…sitting in the aerobars was more efficent than sitting up”

Tell that one to the TDF guys!! Steep angle bikes aren’t as effecient for climbing as road bikes, even Dan might admit that, but I think what he was suggesting, if I remember the article correctly, that if climbing in a steep angle position on a tri bike you can pull up on the aero bars for leverage while spinning and many tri bike riders may find that to be a more effecient climbing technique than sitting up and pushing.

Hello,

What he said was that bikes properly set up for aero positioning were most efficient ridden that way. So on a climb it was better to set your self up with a comfortable spin at the beginning of the climb and stay down or when necessary get up out of the saddle. If you sat upright, you were riding in a manner least efficient to the set up of your bike.

Brian

hmm…so its more efficient spinning and using the aerobars for leverage?

So i got into Ironman Canada…im a little worried about richter pass. Any ideas on that hill? sit, spin, out of saddle? anyone done it? how did you do it? gear ratios? etc?

Thanks,

He believed that sitting in the aerobars and spinning…
I couldn’t even reach my pedals if I were sitting in my aerobars. Maybe if I sat backwards but it still doesn’t sound efficent to me.
