Just wanted to post a note about how great the WTC and in particular a woman I only know as “Mella” was in helping me and some friends get to the starting line of the race. I and 4 other athletes flew down from NYC on Friday morning but were delay when our flight had to make an emergency landing in Newark when the cabin pressure systems in the plan malfunctioned (yes there are two, and yes they both went on the fritz). We got a new flgiht, but given the tight time frame we knew we could never make it to registration or bike check-in on time. That’s where Mella, who was part of the registration crew, came in. When I called about the situation, she put us at ease by assuring that she woud stay as late as need to make sure we got to register + race. In the end, we arrived over 3 hours after registration closed but our stuff was ready and waiting. We then had to assemble our bikes in the dark (fun, fun) and get them to the transition area, also several hours late. There we met Ben Fertic who was also great, totally understanding and helpful.
Though I an usually not a big cheerleader for big, profit hungry corporations, this experience was loyalty inducing and made me a much bigger fan of the WTC than I would otherwise have been or expected (though no M Dot tattoo anytime soon). Thank you, Mella!
