Classic Steel paint jobs

I’m about to have a custom steel bike (lugged) built for me. I want it to have a “classic” paint job. Does anyone have pictures of cool paint jobs? I’ve searched around the internet a little but thought I would through out the question to the masses.

Thanks

He has some great photos on his site and some great ideas for a steel frame paint job. Plus he can build you a sweet ride. You can’t find many guys like this around anymore. Real Talent!!

That top paint job almost makes me want to become Canadian. If Canada was a real country that is.

Browse around this site for some inspiration:

Really, really beautiful stuff. The guy who makes them was an artist before he got into bikes.

Wrong link, the correct link is: www.cyclart.com without the ‘e’ in cycle.

cool, that top photo looks like Vic Emond’s keirin bike. I think I’ve raced against him on that bike at Indy’s major taylor velodrome. I think that’s him second from the top, I’m tucked in next to Curtis Tolson, 3rd from the bottom w/ the green and black skinsuit. Man, look at the size of those dudes! I’m 205# in that picure and I look like a 8 year old girl next to some of those guys. What a nice looking bike to bang around in a keirin with! Vic a multi time distirct sprint and keirin champ.

I second Vanilla cycles as a source for inspiration, their works of art are anything but “vanilla”

-How long ago was that picture taken? The guy on the top and the guy on the bottom are from The Speedway Wheelmen, but wearing uniforms from different years. We had to get away from the white on the leg b/c they became transparent in the rain.

That is from May 21st, 2004, follow the link:

Look at the gallery at www.rexcycles.com

The time trial bike is sort of a reverse Molteni (known as the bizarro Merckx), and the burgundy with white panel compact at the bottom is an homage to the 80’s Saronni Colnago. These bikes are painted by Russ Pickett in Chico CA- does great paint for not a lot of $ IMO.

The guy you may wish to get in contact with is Joe Bell. Even Richard Sachs has his classic lugged steel bikes bikes painted there.

Classic steel paint usually involves painting the lugs a different (yet complimentary) color from the tubes. Then add some small logos or artwork on the headtube, seat tube, and seatstays.

Your average roadie would tend to disagree.

If I’d meant “average” in ability, then yes I would put quotes.
I meant average as in, the person you are most likely to run into on a group ride. Which, I’m assuming is who he is trying to impress with a “classic” steel paint job.
A triahtlon paint job… well, now that would be a little different.

Your avarage roadie from 1985?

Isn’t that where all roadies still live (deep down in their heart.)???

Everybody Wang Chung Tonight, indeed.

BTW, love the new signature. Underquoted film to be certain.

Yes…mmmmmmmmm
