Classic Slowtwitch moments at the 5430 Tri in Bouler

Overheard as I was plodding up the hill on the 2nd lap of the run…

She (smoking hot 30-something) pulling up next to a guy she knew:
" Hey - how’s it going? Great day to race, isn’t it?"
He (pretty fit looking guy on his first lap I think)
" Well, it’s getting kind of hot"
She
" Guess you’ll just have to HTFU…"
He
" Hunh?"
She
"Harden The Fuck Up! Good luck "
… and drops the hammer and leaves him

The second classic moment of the day happened as I (and many other AG’ers) finished.
As I staggered across the line, there is Chrissie Wellington hanging finishers medals around our necks! She has passed
me on the run (sounding like she was doing 400 intervals at the track) with a serious game-face on as she tried to run
down eventual winner Julie Dibbens. Despite coming in 2nd (for the first time ever??) there she was in the hot sun hanging
medals. I asked for a hug, and she wrapped me up like a long-lost friend and posed of a photo while my wife fumbled for the camera.

What a privilage and honor to share a course with pros who give that much back. I’ve read other similar stories about Chrissie
in particular, so I know this is very much her MO. It was great to personally experience that sincerity

Maybe it was a cheesy line, and that’s why the guy didn’t understand the response?

Talking to teammates and discussing their race plans:

1: I’d like to come out of the swim in the front back, hang on on the bike, and then drop the hammer on the run (looks like he did).
2: I’d gonna just finish - go as hard as I can on the swim and hold on.
3: Well, everyone knows that the run is really a cool-down for the bike. So, get through the swim, unleash hell on the bike, and … cool down!
