"Have you ever wondered what it would look like if Chicken Little ran a commune? I suspect it would look like this collectivist freak-out of a response by the left-wing blogosphere to an op-ed by actor/martial artist/pitchman Chuck Norris.
Yes, that Chuck Norris.
Norris wrote an op-ed column on WorldNetDaily — generally regarded by most as a sort of politically-themed, right-wing National Enquirer — called “I may run for president of Texas.” Here’s a sample containing what appears to be the most inflammatory content, but read the whole thing.
Anyone who has been around Texas for any length of time knows exactly what we’d do if the going got rough in America. Let there be no doubt about that. As Sam Houston once said, “Texas has yet to learn submission to any oppression, come from what source it may…”
I think in a straight-up fight, Norris’d win by KO with a roundhouse kick to the head, naturally. Intellectually? Much longer odds. But, with the threat of actual physical violence backing him up, I don’t think most progressives would stay that long in the ring
when righties win elections, Lefties say they are going to leave the country - - when lefties win, Righties say they are going to secede from the Union, or pick up their weapons and kill all the oddballs.
Say what you like. Lot’s here like to make a mockery of the man. But how many people can claim to be genuine multi-time heavy weight full contact kick boxing champion?
I admire the hell out of the guy. My first black belt earned was in Tae Kwon Do (Ji Do Kwan) in 1975, back before the style was sissified and prettied up for the Olympics. Norris popularized the high kicks and basic punching strengths of the art from the first time he competed in a free-fighting tournament back in the 1960s, and besides Bruce Lee he was one of my strongest role models when it came to “suffering for art.” And I mean that literally, given the lunatic training methods all my native-born Korean Tae Kwon Do instructors, masters, and grand masters were only to happy to pound into my body back in '71 and onward My dad had never heard of Goethe, but I can’t escape the feeling he knew that “that which did not kill me would only make me stronger,” and therefore wouldn’t let me quit that first time I took it in the face from a fellow student. Who was a girl and who kicked my butt all over the dojang (hahahaha!).
What happend to all the right-wing complaints about all these hollywood types spoutin’ their worthless 2 cents about politics, government, the economy, etc. Norris is just another know-nothing actor.
Yeah I am not ashamed to admit that growing up, Chuck Norris, Bruce Lee and all those guys were my heroes, I used to save up all my pocket money and collect all those thin, bad quality paper magazines on the full contact tournaments. Remember Super Foot Wallace with the killer sliding sidekicks? Not many people can use that powerful kick as a main real fighting technique because it is too easily anticipated and too slow. All except for Super Foot Wallace who could deliver them to the head as fast as someone could throw jabs.
I remember in the late 70s sneaking out to catch the documentary movie on the first underground Kyokushinkai Tournament. They had like a hundred over exponents from all different styles from all over the world converging on this one event. It was brutal with guys being carried out on stretchers unconscious with broken jaws etc.
Of course these days we have the UFC etc but the grappling which makes it very pragmatic, isn’t as exciting as just full on stand up striking.
TKD is excellent for leg work, but generally lacks hand striking for freestyle contact. Combined with a good training with boxing it is a very effective striking combination.
Sparring with girls is a challenge. You can’t punch or kick them in the titties and of course not the face. Then the more you hold back these femmes seem to have this vicious, I need to prove something attitude and really try to smack you up, punch you in the face and kick you in the groin etc.
In our fighting club we were encouraged to work as doormen at the clubs to gain real life exposure. That was a wild time. These days I keep in practice and give instruction to my son since he started getting smacked up by the older boys in school. But somehow I feel that this generation seems more interested in playing it on computer games than really being self-inspired to learn it for themselves like we were.

The post was meant to be humorous. You, sir, give a bad name to all us legitimate (i.e. “Navy-type”) squids, active and retired
And you should resign from whatever it is the rest of the Lavender Room hit squad wants you to resign from (hee-hee).
