Do you think the massager will make a good gift for triathlete who has all basic needs covered?
I have seen the one in Sams Club, it has heating elements and stuff like that.
Do you know if it will be useful, or just another junk that is collecting dust after a month?
I think they are kinda junk actually (even those expensive Sharper Image or whatever store’s they are now chairs aren’t that great to me). I’d prefer an gift card for a 1 hour massage instead (preferably with somebody who knows how to focus on sports therapy massages).
I know that there are more uses for it, other than massaging, but I love using it after a long workout and it feels great on the back after a long ride.
Either go with a gift certificate for a massage, or some of the rollers that are specifically designed for athletes to self-massage. The Stick is probably my favorite. The trigger point roller would also be a good choice (or add on).

But the roller will need you to do something, right? The idea is push the button and relax

It’s about recovery, not relaxation. For example, getting a good deep muscle massage, while helpful, is quite uncomfortable.
Car buffer … seriously. The dude in this video is a little vulgar … but kinda funny. If you’re not into gratuitous f-bombs just Google “car buffer massage”. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iyLs7fldfEc
