This is Christmas Eve as it should be.
Just returned from the Donut Ride today (it’s a Toronto institution…check it out on wikipedia - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Toronto_Donut_Ride).
Given our very un-wintry weather of late, it was great to actually be out on a bike on December 24th. The numbers were huge…I figure about 80 riders out in the sunshine and the 6c temperatures, the pace was manageable (which means I didn’t get dropped), and everyone was in a good mood. I’d say more than half the people were on their summer bikes, though it was interesting to see a Soloist Carbon – with fenders.
As a special treat, it was neat to be joined by the entire Barry clan - Michael, Dede, and Mike (Michael’s dad, who’s something of a patriarch to the Toronto cycling scene). Very cool to be drafting off a gold medalist. I even have it on good authority that Santa is bringing Michael and Dede’s little guy his first bike tomorrow.
Anyways, just thought I’d share. This time of year it’s good to be thankful for the big and little things…like the Donut Ride. Happy holidays and ride safe, everyone.
