Used the search option and found nothing so I’ll risk posing the question possibly one more time; why was Chrissie Wellington’s 2011 Kona bib# 102? Whatever logic you apply it just doesn’t seem to make enough sense to me.
Defending champ always gets the 101.
I’m not saying she should have had 101, just not 102 either since she missed 2010 Championship, how about the 2010 1st, 2nd and 3rd place finishers?
men start at #1 and woman at #101, with the defending champion as 1.
Then what should she have had 1001?
Tough room; should 2010 womens 1,2, 3rd place finishers not have been issued 101,102,103???
"should’??
What is this “should” you speak of?
The corporation can give her whatever number they want.
then lets give Alexander 24 next year, you make no sense at all
.
I believe the defending champ gets 1/101, then it goes by qualification points ranking.
The whole kona points ranking system changed a lot of pros numbers…why did crowie wear 1? he wasn’t 1 from 2010, he was 4th.
thank you slorunner, that sounds like what I’m missing here, I assumed that 2nd,3rd automatically got 102,103;
.
You’re right, I can see the headline now-
"Defending Champion Craig Alexander Issued #24 for the Ironman World Championship…
…and not a single fu*k was given."
good point cjathey , but he was #1 in 2009 and Macca didn’t show to defend in 2011
.
How come men get 1? So sexist.
(I really don’t care…)
I think they should have to lottery the #1 every 3 years. One year for females one year for males one year for lottery.
To avoid sexism ;^)

My favorite number is i

Mine is 68.
I believe Teresa Macel got #1 at IMC in 2010 when Jordan was injured…

As soon as a woman wins the overall race, she’ll get #1. Its completely fair.
