I think the fact that she even responds to such ignorance shows what a class act she is. I hope the rest of the media ‘moans’ when they heard that question.
i might add that the womens race is much different than the mens.
men HAVE to push the bike hard which nets you smaller gains in time for the increasing power. the womens distance tri field isnt that competitive and they dont push the bike as hard. hence very fast run times comparatively.
nevertheless i still wonder about radcliffe and wellingtons performances.
I have no problem with what he said. Everyone ignored the signs when big mac and sosa were in their home run chase. Crissie and all the pro should be tested vigoriously. My understanding is that testing for pro triathletes falls far below that of cycling and other olympic sports.

What is the testing in MLB? If I understand correctly, there isn’t ANY.
I think that the testing may be sub par in triathlon, there is testing. But as stated time and time again, it’s expensive. The money in triathlon, as an athlete, isn’t much relative to cycling and especially MLB, where there is not testing.

Whats money got to do with it?
We have absolute direct evidence that many amateurs dope, often. No money at all.

Chrissie Wellinngton is on the WADA out of competition testing programme (probably to keep her options open for London 2012), so is subject to the same testing regime as olympic athletes. This means that she is more likely to be tested than the rest of the IM field.

I don’t see where there is random testing, or ANY testing, in the Wiki site. They only state what happens if someone is guilty of using banned substances. I know they say they don’t want drugs in their sport, but unless there is a needle in someone’s ass, or pills falling out of a pocket, I am not too sure there is ‘testing.’ Kind of the same rules that apply to any citizen.
Money does play a substantially bigger role in professional fields than amateurs. When $100,000 is on the line, it is important that the playing field is level (or as level as possible) in terms of drug usage. Egos are on the line for amateurs. Can’t buy much with those.
NFL, NBA, MLB are complete jokes in terms of drug testing.
Gotcha, triathlon is ok because baseball is worse. (maybe)
Ha, ha, good point. My point is there is testing in triathlon. As the reporter makes accusations of Wellington, in a sport there IS testing, yet no one stresses it in the sports where people actually have a lot ($$$) to lose.
My subsequent point was to the person that was critical of when and how much testing there is. Again, there is testing, they do try and ‘catch’ people, and it is expensive, in a sport where there is little payout.
Big picture, cycling there is more testing, more critical testing, but there is a lot more at stake. Doesn’t mean that it’s ‘more okay’ to dope in triathlon, or any sport. It’s what is on the line. That is the reason I don’t understand MLB, NBA, and NFL. A bit of money in those sports. But maybe they have too much to lose. Don’t know. Maybe people don’t really care either?
The delta between Chrissie and the next best woman is much greater than the delta between the top amrathon man or top IM man and the next best. Anyone that dominates a physical sport is going to be called into question.
I don’t mind an intelligent discussion (not aimed at you) but the original poster wasn’t discussing he was attacking.
Just dominating isn’t proof. Bob Beamon, had he jumped the distance he did in Mexico, today would be looked at with highly suspicious eyes. But nothing available at that time would give that delta.
By and large people don’t care in US sports. In the last 20 years the size of football player has gotten shockingly larger. people know why they don’t care. The last guy I talked to about baseball was all in favor of testing. He wanted drugs out. I told him they could easily just adopt Track rules he said that would be great. I told him A Rod, Pettite and a few other would’ve been banned for 2 years and he thought that was rediculous. Sure they did it but you can’t kick a guy out for 2 years.
Is it an attack or is it healthy skepticism? Money should not be an excuse for a lack of good testing. If chrissie is part of a strict olympic testing program then that should be applauded, and if I were her I would want my opponents to be tested to the same measure.
Does anyone think that in today’s kona field all the athletes, pro and ag, are clean? In todays sport any dominating performance should raise an eyebrow and the current testing protocols in place would not catch many dopers.
Putting woman in quotes and sending the message on near IM day is an attack. Having nothing substantial to say is also. Plus he could have easily looked up what testing they do.
I’d have no problem if he came here or elsewhere and inquired what the testing protocal is for pro testing at Kona. If you read his message and didn’t get that he thinks she is dirty vs could be dirty then you missed something.
The delta between Chrissie and the top men is not any different than top marathon women and top marathon men.
Triathlon is just a small sport, not as much talent, so you get more outliers.
And athletics and running is also rife with positive dope tests, too. Not sure I get the logic or comparison- unless you think that the delta between men and women of triathlon 100% clean is equal to running / athletics on dope?
