Chorus or Record derailleur?

I went with some compact cranks on my bike and the shifting is way off, I want to go with a Campy compact front and either medium or long cage rear derailleur, I’m just curious of any of you know of any performance (long term) advantage of the Record over the Chorus? I do know there is a $100 dollar price difference and I’m using a 13x26 cassette. Thanks.

First question is Why do you want a medium or long cage rear derailleur? You want the short cage for a 13-26 cassette. You’re obviously not running a triple-chainring crankset, so there’s no reason to use a medium or long-cage rear derailleur.

As for the front derailleur, go with the Chorus. No noticeable performance difference.

Lastly, you should be able to get perfectly adequate shitfting out of your standard front derailleur (I did it for a couple of years). A compact-specific one is better, but I think you may need to determine why your shifting is bad now, as the problem may carry over to your compact derailleur. Is your chain too long? Is the derailleur set too high? Is it poorly adjusted?

Campag recommend the standard (short cage) rear mech for both standard double and CT chainsets for everything except 13-29 cassette, and the medium cage for same chainsets and the all cassette options (so including the 16T difference between 13-29). CT front mech does give a smoother shift but standard is more than acceptable if set up well/properly.

Regarding durability, I would say there is not a lot in it, Record cost is down to more carbon and Ti. I’m running the '03 record with no hint of a problem.

Record is sexy silky smooth. Chorus is just silky smooth

Only difference is weight.

BTW, a short cage works fine on a 130-29 combo, too. My wife runs that on her bike.

Shoot, the new chorus group with carbon rear and carbon brake levers is some serious schizzle!
