Choosing a wheelset

Hello all, I know this one has probably been talked to death, but I am interested in people’s opinion of how to choose a wheel set. I am just starting to train for my second season of triathlons. I competed in a half iron at the end of the season last summer and did fairly well (4:40:12). I am planning on doing a full Iron in 2010 but I don’t think I will be able to do well on the ride I have (I am riding a Schwinn Prologue). I had a custom disk made from wheelbuilder and love it. However, I think it is a little too heavy to use for a full Ironman. I have the following questions:

  1. Is it more important to update the wheel set first or the bike frame?
  2. How do you know what set is for you?
  3. Clincher or Tubular?
  4. Rear disk, Tri-spoke, or 60/80 etc?

Any help you could give me would be appreciated!

  1. If you have a good well fittin frame then yes. but getting a good frame that fits should be no 1.
  2. it all depends on the races you are doing, the bike course and your handling skills.
  3. You’ll never see the right answer for this. Even god doesn’t know
  4. Same answer as number 2.
