I will - the Gay Bike will be raced there (not by me)…so…what say you?
I’ll be there. I only live a couple of miles away, so why not?
I am in,kind of hard not to do it when the event is out your front door! Although getting to Transition @ 0400 & not racing til 8 sucks!!!
I will, and it will be my first time putting any more of me than a big toe in that cold lake! Brrrr.
R10C, how will I know who to yell hello to if you’re not on the pink planet x?
Where does one find out wave start times?
RR
how many people usually register for this race?
Website said 8,000 plan to race the OLY - so it’ll be a sh*t show. hopefully the weather improves - if it’s anything like it is this morning, will be a long race!!
I’ll take an 8am start. Every time I’ve done it, I start closer to 10. Wave start times are announced at the expo.
Although racking the bike at 4am and starting 5-6 hours later sucks, I keep coming back.
I can’t believe you guys keep coming back. Last time I raced there were 8000 participants, my wave start was 10:30. It sucked so bad. Trying to ride on LSD in one of the last waves was really bad.
It is right out my front door, but not worth it anymore. I would much rather drive an hour or so and be able to actually race. There are so many other better races out there – Pleasant Prairie for example.
Maybe I will try the sprint someday. Until the size of this race comes down, I’m not doing it.
Wave start times will be given out at registration/expo on Fri/Sat. I cannot make it this year, I am signed up but have work obligations to attend to. Alpine Valley music theater is in our county, have Rage against the Machine Fri. night and then Dave Matthews Sat and Sun. all sold out. Should be a fun weekend. I have been nursing an injury so I am going to send in a medical rollover for next year, at least I won’t lose my fee. Good luck to everyone going. I did it for the first time last year and really enjoyed it, I think they had like 54 waves last year!
I will be there. Elite AG wave. I’ve raced in the AG ranks at Chicago before, and it is the definition of a clusterf*ck.
I’ll be in the Sprint shooting for an AG podium spot. Now if those fast, obviously drugged up out-of-towners would just stay away ![]()
I’m in.
It’s not the spectacle of an IM, but it is quite a spectacle nonetheless…
Never before have so many been passed for so little gain in the final results…
BTW - I was in the lake on Friday morning and it was d*mn near perfect (other than the borderline E-coli levels).
I’m racing it this year. See you guys there.
With all of the flooding in the region is there any risk the swim might not happen? That would be horrible!
I don’t see that - the lake looks fine - rain should subside thursday or friday - and it’s really not that bad downtown anyway - the rain and flooding is much worse in the burbs.
I’m in! I think Steelhead this year was good practice for getting used to a crowded race…
I’ve never seen Lake Michigan so warm. It’s been over 80 degrees some days. I can’t imagine them making this a non-wetsuit race with all the thousands of bad swimmers. I’m going to swim at lunchtime today at Ohio Street Beach.
I race Chicago every year. I love the crowds. I love the size of the event.
I love the spectacle of it all.
Maybe because it was the first Tri I did, the Chicago Triathlon is what I think a race SHOULD be like. I am a little disappointed when I get to these smaller local races – I wonder where all the people are, where’s the vibe?
Although Pleasant Prarie is a very nice race, it doesn’t hold the same excitement for me as Chicago does.
The Chicago Triathlon is like a Marathon. You’re out there with every yahoo, wannabee and first-timer and you just have to wade your way through it all.
Late start? Early start? that’s just one of the unique features of the race that you have to deal with.
I will. Going to wear pink boxers just to meet you. ![]()
Stop by the INFINIT booth. Kim will be there also.
I’m in!
