It was not Kerry, and the guys name just escaped me, i will get it in a minute. He was a little guy that was a great swimmer runner that just did the sport for a few years and disappeared. The deal was that Rob pulled the entire swim with this guy on his feet, and once they were running to T1 he tried to run past Rob. Rob threw out a high elbow and kept the guy from going past for the swim prime, so full contact OW swimming. Not sure where, but there was a photo shot just before the elbow went up and was either in a mag or something…
Andrew Carlson was his name, just had to stop thinking about it for a second…
I remember the swim was right alongside the harbor walk and we got a lot of waves washing back against us. But is was cool seeing all the people walking along and cheering.
Do you have an approximate time? The 1179 men are listed by time. No age breakdown. The fastes time, Scott Molina, 1:54:02. The slowest time 4:32.
Give me a ballpark time and I’ll look it up this weekend.
Ah the good old days… I did the Bud Light Tri in Connecticut, maybe 1990? It was right after a huge rain and the CT river was so nasty due to storm drains flooding over. Some participants questioned the water quality. Yet we all did not know what the hell we were doing and the race was still on. So we all just shrugged our shoulders and swam.
I remember getting the results in some hotel lobby (or similar), that just consisted of a bunch of 8.5X11 printouts of all 800 or so people only by finish time. Can’t remember if they mailed me my results.
As I read about Andy Pott’s unfortunate crash I’m remembering that in a parallel universe I did the Bud Light Triathlon in Chicago in 1988. I would love to see my times then to compare to now. Does anyone know where I could find those results?
I recall a very cold, non-wetsuit swim (too poor to buy one, too uninformed to know why I needed one). A friend gave my a tub of vaseline and said smear this everywhere and it’ll keep you warm. Needless to say the hypothermia made the swim a forgotten moment. The bike on LSD was way cool and he run was great until the quads cramped. Ah youth!
I believe that is the race where I met you for the 1st time. Makes me miss dale seeing those results - great guy. I stretched with Joanne Ernst before the race. Epic day - the 1st time the “Big 4” were in the same race I believe. If anyone has the results, check out my transition times :-)!!

Thank you for taking the time to look at this Elvis. The results were much higher then I recall. Is it possible that was when the race was 2K/40K/15K? I was born 7/22/57 so depending on when the race took place that would be results from either 1982 or 1983. If that was indeed the 1.5K/40K/10K then I had a better time in 2009…Wow…
Well this race was on 7/22/84 (your birthday). Pre-computers, I would guess they just mistyped your age.
They specifically list the distances as 1.5k/40k/10k.
I remember it was hot that day. I cramped up badly on the bike and had to walk part of the run. I also put a heavy bag of bike tools behind the seat and even had a heavy bike chain (you know in case the bike broke down and I needed to lock the bike up on the course some where). What an idiot. But I was 20 at the time.
