wow.
100 mph winds with the front?
and that thing is headed Michigan way.

REALLY BAD. We had a microburst here of winds of excess of 80mph. Trees down, powerlines down. I am surprised we still have power, to be honest. Hail and all…it has been like this night after night this summer. Just awful. Tonight is just worse…but be safe in N. IN and S. MI !! More are on the way. Of course, in true Chicago fashion - the newscasters are trying to “decide” what will happen with the SOX game. lol
that’s what i was hearing.
much damage along the waterfront?
we’ve already had a couple funnel clouds and related stuff here in SW Mich…
hope no one was caught out in the boonies riding…
I am in the 'burbs, so not sure about downtown…I’ll let those peeps post when they can…some are w/o power…so hopefully everyone is ok! Be safe! It is STILL very bad here.

Ha! That would be me, aka Schleprock. Was at the tail end of a long ride out in the far western 'burbs (kane/McHenry county) when it gets even more windy and starts raining. Pouring. Massive lightning and thunder. I start trying to remember what I had recently read about bikes getting hit by lightning, and tell myself biking in the rain is good practice for IMOO.
However, when I almost got blown off the road, and cars were zooming past very close and I was worried as to how well they could see me, and the lightning got closer and more frequent…I then realized that I was an idiot. Stopped to call someone to pick me up - while I was waiting, an off-duty firefighter stopped to see if I needed a ride, and told me that tornadoes had been spotted in the area. Fun.
This is insane - there were roads flooded when I started out on my ride - by now they’ll be impassable. I’m just hoping my house in Chicago is still standing - I’m stuck out here waiting out traffic. And, hoping all our other local STians are okay!!
Thanks for asking…
We have been literally swamped. Our street (Pooler Avenue BTW) is partly underwater and I spent part of my afternoon in the locker room of our school after a tornado warning was issued. Just a teacher day today…thankfully this didn’t happen with the kids there. It’s pouring again as I write this, and it looks to be the same for Friday…been like this for a week and our sump pump has been going non stop. I am signed up to do a sprint race 30 miles north of Madison on Saturday…wondering how they are holding up.
Lakefront is ok, although were about to get hit with another storm - I’m right on the lake in Millenium Park - no serious damage, YET.
Stay tuned - in about 5 minutes we’re going to be hit.
.
Lincoln park is a mess Tree’s down every where!! Another front moving through right now! Mother nature sure kicks some arse when she feels like it!
whoa.
the first wave blew through here in SW Mich pretty quick. strong but not deadly.
now we have the calm between the fronts.
i swear the leading edge was purple on the radar when the front rolled through over there.
I was riding by the lakeshore and turned west to go back to my house and saw the black sky. I ended up flatting and grabbed a cab because i saw the storm coming. Halfway home it is pouring and the cab driver says his trunk is getting wet because it was open (with my bike in it) and he makes me get out 3 blocks from my house! I end up walking the rest of the way and get totally drenched. I took a quick break under an awning and saw a messenger on his bike literally get blown over and land on his side! The worst part is when the cab driver told me to get out I was thinking about what I was going to do and I actually PAID HIM! He kicked me out and get money! What an idiot am I!
I’m in Wrigleyville and lots of trees down and a few street flooding. The commute home from the burbs took FOREVER. I hope everyone had a full tank of gas when they got in their car.

Well, I’m glad to see that I’m not the only idiot.
Hey, at least you came to your senses quickly and turned around to go home, unlike me. Thought bubble over my head as I was riding:
“Of course, rain. I can handle rain - it’s kind of fun. Wheeee! Okay, so it’s really pouring - I wonder if the cars can see me. On my black bike. Wow, that’s a lot of lightning. Holy crap! Wouldn’t lightning hit, say, a car before it hits me? Cars have more metal. I probably want to zoom quickly over this bridge though - don’t want to be the highest point and all. Today is probably what IMOO will be like - first heat, humidity, and high winds - and then a monsoon. Train like you race, baby. Eek!” (as the wind almost knocks me into a ditch.
Clearly, I am an idiot.
Glad to hear people made it home safely. I just got home, and my neighborhood is a mess - tree branches down all over, blocking streets, huge trees up by their roots, cars smashed, power out everywhere, my phone line is down…crazy!
Lost most of one of my parkway trees in Oak Brook. Unplugged the tv and computer just in case our surge protectors didn’t do the job. I hope Lake Shore Drive is not underwater for the Accenture tri on Sunday. When I’m done with the swim I really want to be done with the swim!
