CHI Running

Anyone have any experience pro or con with this running method? I believe it has similarities to the Pose Method.

Yes. I trained with Danny for a bit over a year and it made a huge improvement on my comfort, efficiency, and alleviated various routine aches. I don’t know much about POSE to compare to though, from what I’ve read, some of the principles regarding lean, lift and gravity are very similar.

Some of the main points of Chi Running involve running with a slight lean, a very compact stride/high cadence, landing your feet flat underneath yourself(not in front), and resisting any tempation to push at the ground but rather lifting your legs as your body falls forward.

Nothing magical, but it does take a while to integrate the mechanics and make them second nature.

It’s been several years since I’ve done Chi Running and from what I see now, it’s drifted a little into New Aginess with a lot of ‘mindful’ this and ‘mindful’ that. I wouldn’t let that deter you. The content is quite good. If you live in the Bay Area or are planning to visit, I’d say take one of his seminars. I’m not sure if you can really get it from the book/dvd, but it’s still worth trying if you can’t make it person.

Have fun.

RPM,
Here is a short intro ChiRunning video on the principles.

ChiRunning and Pose are actually very different. There only common concept is to use a forward lean to allow gravity to pull you forward. To that you might add a higher cadence, but there are differences to that point as well. Here is a blog post on a few of the key differences:

Enjoy,
David.
