I have lent my trusty first bike (2001 Giant OCR-3) that I did my first IM on and many other triathlons. I got it 2nd hand.
At the time I got it, the wheels were pretty far shot - untruable and with a hop.
I said I’d help my brother get some new wheels for it and need a recommendation. The shop I use now doesn’t have anything as cheap as I am looking for.
The original rims were Alex DR13 700 x 32 hole but I can’t track those down.
I was hoping to get wheels + tires for around $100.
If you can recommend some I can probably have my shop order them. Thanks.
$100 is a pretty slim budget for wheels. you can certainly find some used but your (his) best bet is to double that and get a set of Mavic Aksium Race. They are a decent entry level wheel at a decent price. and they have the look of the Mavic Ksyrium lineup. you can get them in black or silver as well. hope that helps.
I got 2 tires for under $20 shipped from Nashbar – Panaracer Category-Elite.
That being said I would never buy them again as my 1st ride the sidewall was cut and it cost me 5 tubes. Most of that was my stupidity, but I did go back to Milchelin Pro Race 2 at $50/tire.
