Cheap CO2 Cartridges- Safe?

I use a Genuine Innovations Airchuck Sl Co2 inflator. Cartridges for it run $3-4, and it can get pretty expensive. I found these on eBay: http://cgi.ebay.com/20-New-16g-Threaded-CO2-Cartridges-for-Tire-Inflator_W0QQitemZ290064297543QQihZ019QQcategoryZ22691QQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem

and they come to around a dollar a cartridge. Are these any more dangerous than the brand name ones? I would think they are all manufactured the same. Has anyone used these (or similar) generic cartridges?

Biketiresdirect.com has some for 1.50 if you buy ten. Buying from them would add a little piece of mind since they have been around a while

I think sending brain tissue through the mail would constitute a bio-hazard. Not to mention the smell by the time it got there.

Just messing with you… ;^)

I was actually in my garage the other day thinking about trying to cut threads onto a threadless to save money but then common sense took over. Since I only use 5 a year.

I got a book on the Darwin Awards for Christmas. Please don’t be in the next one.

“I was actually in my garage the other day thinking about trying to cut threads onto a threadless to save money…”

I would have to categorize that potential practice as “not safe.”

I’m glad you changed your mind! But, I appreciate your frugal-mindedness – we are cut from the same cloth, I think.

Good homonym joke!!!

Buy a threadless inflator and then buy the threadless CO2 cartriges from Wal Mart for $.50 each. I buy a box of 20 or so for less than 10 bucks. It gets you enough pressure to finish your ride. Don’t think I am getting 100 psi in there but probably 60-80ish from the feel of the tire. Plenty enough to do the job. This is what I used in Pensacola Florida for years as I was averaging at least 1 flat per week. Lots of hurricane debris (for several years!!)
