Anyone have some healthier/less refined cheap drinks or foods they use for longer trainer rides? I currently use dried dates or figs ($.20 per 100 cal), but want to switch to only liquid and no protein or fiber. I like Heed, but it is ~$.60 per 100 calories. Private label cola is $.10 per 100 calories but is all high fructose syrup, which I don’t mind, but would rather go without the possibility of a 3rd or 4th ball one day.
maltodextrin
.
bulk maltodextrin.
add some salt and you have recreated HEED
Wally World sells cans of powdered Gatorade for $8.50 or so for 63 80oz servings. 18 cents/100 calories. Not bad, if you ask me. No HFCS, either.

+1
My ultimate budget training food this winter have been Kroger “Value” Chocolate chip cookies. A box has16, 120 calorie servings and costs $1.10 at my local Smiths (in Salt Lake). Less than $.07 for 120 calories. I spend $4 and I have food for over a week of hard riding.

I bought a 50 lb bag at the local home brew store for $55.79 plus tax. I used to mix Crystal Light in for flavor, but now I just mix with water.
This just made my day. Thanks.
I just ordered this:

I will still use my personal favorite EFS for my “A” workouts and races, but it is just too expensive for me to use on a day in - day out basis.
