Passed through a few times. Looks to be a cool city. I saw lots of people riding. I am not sure about the riding directly in Chatanooga but just south of there you will find some GREAT riding on some of the Tour de Georgia route. Try Hogpen Gap and Brasstown Bald etc… Looks like some good white water kayaking in the area also.

PM Herbert, IIRC he lived there

I have lots of answers for you.

Chattanooga is great indeed, but just like Boulder it had a recent rash of car versus bike incidents. :frowning:

Downtown is fantastic with a great waterfront and a couple mountains right there. Lots of great restaurant and a very cool atmosphere. I did this blog a couple years ago, but it is still pretty accurate:

Many roads to ride on and plenty places to run, the toughest thing there is to do long rides without climbing. There are indeed plenty of amazing climbs to do all around Chattanooga. Lots of great trails to run on and a fantastic new mountain bike trail system on Raccoon Mountain close to downtown.

Swimming is best either at the Master Swim program at McCallie, but Baylor has also a great pool and a masters program. Plus swimming in open water is easy to do with plenty of choices. Also there is a fitness club called the Sports Barn with 3 locations that has an indoor pool downtown and outdoor pools in the other locations, about 20 minutes from downtown.

Living in North Chattanooga is pretty nice but a bit expensive, plus living on either Lookout Mountain or Signal Mountain can be quite nice but requires more of a commute if you want to go places. I lived on Missionary Ridge and really liked that area too. It is close to downtown and from there the airport is a quick trip. Also, running on Missionary Ridge is beautiful, but quite undulating.

Schools for what and whom?

Thanks for the reply. The blog is great. I will have to check the Big River Grille and their beer selection if we visit next weekend. For schools, just wanted to know the best public school district for reason of resale value of a house. No kids.

I am looking forward to riding and running in the hills. I love the Charleston and coastal South Carolina, but it is just too flat.
