In the race description…it says that “the top 5 finishers or 33%” (whichever is greater) in each age group qualifies for nationals in Portland. Do I understand this correctly? If there is a 99 people in your age group…the first 33 would qualify.
I’ll be here, I mean there. Same diff. This’ll be my first race this season and am looking forward to it. Actually, between that and IMKY, they’re my only races. Bike course has changed and I hear it’s a bit tougher.
I will be there and hopefully my new B2 will be ready (eight days since I placed the order at the LBS and I feel like a kid waiting for christmas!). M 25-29.
I can promise you that the swim will be reasonably fast, the bike course will be quite tough with lots of long slow climbs and the run is not too easy either. But come in town anyway to check out the cool Chattanooga area.
Cheers,
Herbert
I will be there 39- Clydesdale. Thinking about driving up Saturday and going over the routes.
I’ll be there with three other guys from down here in Dothan, Alabama. Not my first race of the season but the one I have prepared least for if that counts.
Right on…look forward to seeing you too. We will be the three monkeys from Huntsville, Al. We will be with our Kuota, Quintana Roo, and Cervelo (black and blue)…we’ll be interested to talk to yall…good luck
How much will my swim time speed up from the normal pool time. Because, I looked at last years swim times and they were lightning fast across the entire age groups. I am thinking maybe 4-6 minutes faster because of downstream current and draft.
Well…I may have ran into you at some of the other events like buster b…etc. What age group? I hope your hip is fine…ice it…i have been icing mine too. I did a brick today and my run was limited because of my tight right hip!!

Ya, last year I did YTri, a GCT relay, BB, an Oly in Lousiville, KY, mountain lakes, Atomic Man (CRASH) and Cohutta Springs. Have done GCT and BB this year preparing for an iron distance in September.
This is perhaps my favorite race of the year. Tough call between this and Gulf Coast, but I really love Chattanooga. It is a very quick drive from Atlanta and there are so many kid friendly things to do. Where else can you find a Marriott hotel right across from the transition area, and the aquirium, and childrens museum and ball park? We generally take the kids to see Rock City and do all of the other touristy things on Saturday followed by a Lookouts game that night. These guys play baseball because they love the game, the seats are very cheap, and you can see everything. Wake up and do the race.
The swim is down river and is a staggered start. Not sure what my pool mile time would be, but I’m around 21 flat with no effort during this race. You could do back stroke and come in close to that time. I hate that they have to change the bike course every year because I was getting used to the out and back two loop course. The run course is also a killer. There is a super steep hill leaving the downtown area, but you run on a nice paved trail along the river. It is typically very hot at that point of the race.
And YES, top 33% qualify which is amazing. I’m not fast by any means, but last year I came in just under the 33% and qualified. I didn’t go to Portland because I ran the marathon up there last fall and didn’t want to take another NW trip so soon. But it was cool to know that I qualified anyway.
Lastly, the gals at Team Magic do an excellent job putting on the race, as does the City of Chattanooga. Powerman Ala and Chattanooga will always be on my race calendar as long as I live in the SE.
You guessed that right…roll tide!!! Hopefully, we will begin to redeem ourselves. I did Mountain Lakes last year and loved it. I did BB this year and hated it!! Very hilly. I never got passed on the bike and passed a bunch of people but I still thought it was hard. The run course on that race was challenging too. I was about 3 minutes too slow on the run.
I just did McMinnville City tri and had my best race so far. Decatur next week, then Waterfront. I’ll do Cedars of Lebanon at the end of July and then prepare for Mountain Lakes. I will have to look for your bike at the race! What do you ride? Good Luck qualifying! Hopefully, the food will be better than we got at BB: peanut butter and jelly sandwiches and hot drinks…I like PB&J but it seems like the last few team magic races I have been to have had terrible food after killing ourselves like that!! Where’s the Pizza???
