Chattanooga Waterfront LETS TALK!

Ok…I haven’t seen the results. Not sure if I want to. But that was not a normal Olympic Race. That race showed me that if I don’t start running more off the bike (distance and hills) I will never hold a candle to anybody. I think I would have qualified if my run wasn’t so bad. But, hey, I am happy that I finished and happy that I learned something today!!

Have you done the race the first two years? I thought this years bike course was tougher, but a good course. For me, the humidity always makes the run a challenge. I did improve my run time by 4 mins though. I just moved here two weeks ago and went into this less trained than ever!!! Proved I can do it relatively trained but it sure hurt. Results probably won’t be up 'till tomorrow. Did you notice any current on the swim??? (Me neither)

I was actually told by several people we had no current on the swim!!! Actually, one of my training partners said that when he looked at the water after he was pulled back…there was a little current moving towards shore. My chain came off my bike on mile 15 but I got back on it and passed everybody that passed me when I had to stop. I banged my legs so hard on the hills that I was gassed on the run. What an awesome race though. I did not do the race last year…but I do know everyone’s time was longer and only one person broke 2:00.

Do you know who won? My ex training partner was going for it.

Actually I liked the bike course better. Smooth roads and not a lot of turns. We got lucky with the cloud cover as well. The sun didn’t peek out until I was finishing the run. Way cooler than years past. Wished they had fresh grilled burgers like last year instead of Pizza but I guess the amount of participants is playing a factor in that.

craig evans won by about 1’30.

Supposedly Bruce Gennari flew in to town and won 3rd after winning lifetime fitness triathlon yesterday…that is impressive!

And Brent Lorentzen I believe was third or fourth?

The new bike course was awesome and the altered run course / finishline was well better too. The swim actually felt very slow and it took my almost 28 minutes. Yikes.

There was some tough competition in town aswell. The guy who won my age group for example is from Wisconsin and I believe his name is Jon Stien.
He seemed to have had a smoking bike split.

I finished 6th I believe but I was a bit disappointed with my 2:21 time. :frowning:

I liked it better too. With the increase to 1200 participants, I think last year’s double loop course would have been a nightmare. And RammerJammer, I dropped a chain too. More switching between big ring and small than usual on that course. Cloud cover was nice on the run, esp. for us old guys who started pretty late.

And Mr. Mike ran me down like I was standing still and garnered a very solid 4th place finish.

Team-Magic put on a great race this morning… as they always do… weather for the earlier starters was perfect- 72 and cloudy, minimal wind, with a shaded run. The swim did not have any noticeable current- mainly due to lack of rainfall in these parts- at the start when the kayakers were all together at the start before they moved into position- they were just sitting in the water- and no paddle was needed to keep them from moving about.

My training (at least on the bike) buddy got second- Dan Moss- very good- considering how he cycling more than doing tris this year. I didn’t stick around for the results- but looking forward to checking them out.

A good friend of mine qualified for World’s- Vancouver- and she is very pumped. I ended up 4th in my AG- 35-39- not bad for my longest run and longest swim of the year.

I measured the bike at 25.812 miles- so that makes the bike times a little longer… besides the couple of hills

Herbert…congrats on your 6th place finish. I think you should be very pleased with that time…there was no current this year and even some of the top finishers said the bike course was more difficult. I think my training partner came in 21st with a 2:32 time in the 40-44 age grp. So…you should be very happy. That is a great time for a difficult course. Lord knows what would have happened if it had been 10 degrees hotter!

Yeah, that course put a hurtin’ on me.

I have no idea where I finished/placed. I didn’t wear a watch and didn’t notice a finish clock. The preliminary results they posted only had my swim time.

The preliminary results they posted only had my swim time.

Same issue for me and a couple of the guys in our group. Said they had chip/computer issues but were working with the alternate system. When did they finally get them posted…guess I should check online. Tried to track down trifan and Herbert without any luck. Maybe next time…

Had a great time and agree there was no current. I PR’d on the swim and the run but that bike was four minutes slower than my fastest (St. Anthony’s) which was a pretty flat course.

Good to see those of you that I did run into. I was sporting my Peaceful Tribe hat and my bright yellow Army tritop so it made me easy to spot.

Michael

The Chattanooga online paper has results without splits posted: http://www.chattanoogan.com/articles/article_110154.asp

I would definitely recommend this race though as it is a great venue both for racers and spectators.

There were actually quite a few slowtwitchers here and they represented well.

Most improved race course!!! The bike route was tougher but the road conditions an traffic support was great! much better experience than the two loop deal.

I made a mistake an dropped my cold towel off after wiping down thinking they would have another waiting on me down the course… I had nothing left out there I didnt even sprint the downhill finish. thought I came in third clydesdale and waited a couple hours for awards in the heat only to find out they made a mistake and I came in fourh…agggaaahh I could of been home already. Just waiting for the splits to post.

This is a must do race for next year

Hey Herbert, if was good seeing you again. Wish I could have stuck around to catch up with everyone but had to race back the hotel to shower before they kicked us out. I loved the new course, definitely harder but much better and hopefully less cheating. I was really bummed about the swim, I was around 28 minutes too, but used that as motivation to punish the fish while out on the bike. This was a great race as usual and I cannot wait for next year…please let there be a strong current.

Sorry I missed you Mike. Sent a pm. Got to meet Deano from QR (Muffin man on ST) Nice guy with a beautiful custom painted bike. (post a pic of it on here some time will ya?).

For those who have not done with race, it is a beautiful course and a well-run event. I’m sure it will sell out again next year.

Now it’s time to REALLY put the hamer down for IMKY training. This race wore me out and it was only 3 hours long for me.

The above is a pdf link to the results that I found online. They are kinda laid out funny, so you’ll have to hunt.

My legs are killing me…just FYI. I actually liked the course, but would have preferred to have the hills be a little less long…thankfully, I’m decent on the hills b/c of where I train.

What is 33% of 55?

I also noticed the lack of current. My swim time wasn’t what I’d hoped it would be but I was pleased for a non-current 1.5k. I was proud of myself on the bike as I attacked the hills instead of whimpering about them. Although I will have to say that, um, my legs were toast for the run. I shudder to see my run split!

BUT…I HAD FUN!!!

Bruce got 5th…still freakin’ incredible! I’ve known his family since I was very young and have been watching him do tri’s forever… he’s a machine!
