Racing this weekend. Torn between my road or my Tri bike. I cant tell from the map, how much climbing is on the course compared to time in the aero bars. What to do??
Tri Bike, always tri bike (unless you’re M35-39 b/c I’m racing also, then Road bike)
It’s a tough course but the TT bike is faster I’d guess unless you have some crazy gearing like 39-23 where the climbs would kill you
.
Tri bike, not even close.
Tri bike all the way. All the descending is non-technical with zero braking. Can really get going down the hills.
Absolutely TT bike
.
The last hill before turning off the highway is a blast. You can really haul some ass down it. I always wish I had more gears for it.
Can’t be out of town this weekend, but hope to be there again next year. It is an awesome race.
As with everyone else… tri-bike all the way.
The heat and humidity can be brutal on the run so be ready for it.

Chattanooga is always the hottest place on earth for the Waterfront Tri. No matter what.
I vote tri-bike too all the way. Racing again this year after taking last year off.
Looking at the results from last year it looks like the race was turned into a duathlon. Anyone know they may have canceled the swim…thunder & lightning?

It was right after HUGE amounts of rain. The Tennessee river was roaring and overflowing. There would have been 10 minute swims but 1/2 the field would have missed the exit. No way was it swimmable IMO
Tri bike. As far as last year, 10 minute swims would have been right on. The water was moving super fast and at least 15 feet above where it normally is. Entire swim exit under water.
I’ve done it on both. Go with the tri bike.
I have NEVER tamed this race. I melt EVERY year.
But I’ll be there.
So sounds like the course stays in the river valley and surrounding areas but does not take competitors up Suck Creek or Lookout Mountain.
Fave Olympic race ever. Love love. Hate that I live too far away to get there this year. Bham was much closer. TT bike without question. Be ready for the humidity and heat. Enjoy!

The bike course is HWY 27 (I think). It’s hilly and out in the open the whole time. It’s starts to bake you for the run.
Run is on Tennessee river walk. There’s a small bump and some stairs in the first and last miles. 2-5 are flat but it’s still a sauna. There’s no breeze that I’ve ever felt.
I’m a melter also, did a little better last year and hope to gain some ground this year
High of 91 on Sunday. 30% Chance of thunderstorms but they usually only pop up in the later afternoon/evening. It’s going to be another hot run on the river walk.
No mountains. It’s not technically in the river valley – it goes north away from the river. Just long rollers on the Highway 27, as mentioned.
Descents are non-technical, but the highway is under construction. There are maybe 2 areas of grooved pavement.
No mountains?? Lookout Mountain, Signal Mountain and White Oak Mountain to name a few. It is a river valley.
I’ve done it on both. Go with the tri bike.

Same here! I always feel like i’m going to explode from the heat on the run, always turns into a 6 mile slog for me!! Miserably hot on the run, great venue though.
