They went through top 75 women and called the rest of the women up as they had 7 slots to go. Of the women who went up the first was in 97th and last went to 107.
On the men’s side they called my name up at 75 (declined). At 83 they called up rest of men. It went 100. Looks like on par with last year for Nice.
That’s pretty far for an early season race with a quick flight to Atlanta and a rental car. So any American athletes wanting to qualify on the bubble, it’s probably way easier coming to Calgary, Victoria or Tremblant than qualifying at home.
It was tougher for NZ world than this one. Or St. George and Finland. Nice roll down was on par
An athlete I coach was 13th in his age group (30-39) and wasn’t going to go to roll down. I urged him to go because who knows.. he was 77th in the age graded results and managed to snag a spot. So happy for him!
haha he must have been right behind me with a 4:36 age graded? (I was 75th). Next year, I kind of have to come back and make amends (not really happy with my swim and my run is a damage control things….was 2nd in age group at T2 and had the 9th run split….). Normally Muskoka is my A event, but knowing I was not going to Chattanooga, and with work stress, I just lost focus on workouts and also managed to gain 5 lbs in the last month and did not have the heart to push the run either. That’ not helpful on this tough bike-run
I’ll be at Musselman next weekend so we’ll have a good point of comparison, since the races are so close the only real difference is the border.
I’d wager that the uptake is higher. Not only for the US domestic crowd but also since any Canadians travelling there are obviously not boycotting US travel.
Please do post the roll down results, as I’m very curious to see how it goes in a US race. It’d be great if this became a general, rather than race-specific, thread for Chattanooga qualification.
I can change thread title to that affect next weekend too as I effectively asked Shonak to report on what happened in France this same weekend. I would think update would be high at US races and I don’t think that getting 100th in the performance pool in a US race gets you anywhere close. My gut feel is you will need to be within 60 or be watching from the outside as least in early season races. Maybe next spring, in US races, it could roll to 100th. I am curious for European races with distance and politics how far it rolls.
One of my friends took the $110 insurance that gives you 75% money back if you change plans 1 week before the race. She will decide next year what she wants to do now that she has the slot and can let the next year decide her comfort levels
While we’re here making this a more general thread, I was able to pull slot counts from the IM website.
A few stats
7278 total slots, with almost equal gender balance (3640 Men, 3638 women, difference being 2 HC extra slots)
8 HC slots total (5M / 3F)
34 races with 25 slots each gender - these are mostly non-NA, non-EU races, though oddly Sables D’Olonne and Jonkopin next year are both here on July 5.
48 races with 30 slots each gender - more representative of NA/EU with the odd race elsewhere having 30
31 Races with 35 slots each gender
5 Races with 40 - Regional champs + Westfriesland for some reason
Nice 70.3 (the one that just got moved to September but still listed as June on the list) with 60.
Looks like a lot of podium finishers have Turner it down in Les Sables and Jönköping. It’s been reported as a 90% refusal rate (according to social media… maybe not the best source).
So I assume if this is the case they’ll be reallocating the slots big time to the US events in the off season. Have they ever added more this early in the cycle?
Waiting to see the pool here at Ruidosso 70.3. I won M55-59 but what was interesting is they are allowing 2nd and 3rd to take the first place slot if it turned down. I was under the impression winner gets slot and if they turn it down it goes to the pool
Wow that’s literally 70 slots difference for the women at Muskoka last weekend thats not that many hours drive away from Musselman and just across the border in Canada. Women went to 103 in Muskoka.
I contacted a friend who did Swansea today who is sitting at 70th in that pool there . Will update thread based on what I hear
Congrats on your race win. No it has always been that first place gets slot and if it it turned down it can roll to third and after that it goes to performance pool . That’s actually why it can roll far in the performance pool when 1-3 turn it down as they are typically in the top 50. If you have 5 age groups where the entirr podium declines that’s 15 people in the performance pool that no longer matter.
