Charlottesville Virginia training ideas?

Going to be in Charlottesville next week on biz trip (near UVA). Any recommendations for places to run or maybe even swim?

A lot of running groups leave from the UVA track area. Park nearby and find a group to run with. Check in at Ragged Mountain Running Shop (across from UVA) and they will help you find a group. Ridge Road is a favorite for local. It is an out and back dirt road about 10 miles from town with stunning views. If you have access to UVA facilities they have a 50 m pool and a 25m x 25 yard pool. The city has a good indoor pool close to UVA. It is the Smith Aquatic Center which allows walk ins.

Ridge road is a bit of a drive from UVA - so might not work that well. Also periodically goes through a popular site for car break ins - since they know folks are out running. This is a popular route that starts and returns to campus - http://www.cvilletenmiler.com/course.htm - and if you were still around on the 29 - register and race it. Hugely poplar race for a city this small.

Also, ACAC offers walk in access to the pools - I think it is a 10 or 15 $ feel for the day. So if Smith doesn’t work out, you have options.

Finally, check out Blue Ridge Cyclery (just off campus) - they rent carbon road bikes, and there are a couple of regular rides during the week they could hook you up with. Of course that means travelling with helmet and shoes.

Ditto. They are a great shop. If you want the low down on rides just ask, as there are plenty if the weather permits. The Jefferson Cup race is happening on March 30, which can be fun to check out.

An interesting run is to do the Monticello trail. It is a gravel path about 2 miles that leads up to Monticello. While not particularly interesting from a running standpoint, it gives you some great views and a chance to see a bit of the historic areas.
