Bible belt?!?
Charlotte is pretty metropolitan, actually.
To the OP, lots of well organized triathlons all over NC, put on by Setup Events. I’ve never spent a ton of time in Charlotte, so I can’t get much more specific.
I grew up near there and lived near there for 30 years, Charlotte has a lot going for it.
Set-up Inc has three series they run in that region, a NC, SC and a VA, all great events, especially the ones in the Mts of NC.
They have the Olympic Traning center for white water sports , 3 or 4 good tri shops, good rural roads to ride up to the north in Huntersvile - Davidson area.
The City of Mathews is south of Charlotte and was nice, as well as communities up north , Huntersville -Davidson area.
I live in FLA now and would move back in a heartbeat if I was able
My mother lives in Mooresville about 30 mins north of Charlotte and I live in Greensboro about 1.5-2 hrs north. The greater Charlotte area just seems to be really overcrowded to me with a ton of traffic issues. I know whenever I head back down there I’m ready to leave as soon as I sit in traffic for 30 mins.
Send me a message at jbnc77@yahoo.com with some of your background and I can tell you about Charlotte and the tri community. I don’t know much about kids except that they are all over my neighborhood on scooters!
Charlotte is great, and unless you are coming from San Diego or maybe Boulder, CO, you will like it.
Charlotte has grown tremendously in the last 20 years & not all of the roads have kept up with the growth, but if you think Charlotte has traffic, you’ve never driven in & around a major city. As far as riding goes it just depends on what side of the city you decide to live on. The city now covers nearly all of Mecklenburg County, but once you pass into the surrounding counties, there are some good roads to ride on in almost all directions.
Call or stop by Inside-Out Sports (704-333-8331) & they can fill you in on where to swim, bike, & run. Also, check out the Charlotte Track & Triathlon Club (www.charlottettc.org). You can sign up for a weekly e-mail newsletter “Tri-News” at http://www.mailermailer.com/x?oid=30673f
