so im thinking of changing my cables and cockpit on p2. is it easy to route and change all my derailleur and brake cables? i have never changed internally routed cables so im a bit hesistent. but also dont want to pay lbs and be self sufficient.
Yes it’s easy
.
what did you do for tricks? im trying to figure how to to run shifter cables down the middle and out the small tiny holy leading into the cable guide and then up into the FD
All right I think I can help you, I just did this. You will need some wire that you can bend into a little hook shape that you can stick up into the hole where the cables should come out (near the bottom bracket of the P2). Typically the cables will go high of the hole, and hit the bottom bracket shell. Insert the cables through the frame, insert your hooked wire into the hole where the wires should come out. When you hear the shift cables hit the bottom bracket shell, use your home made hook to pull them down out of the hole.
For extra help I had a strong magnet lying around the house, and I used that to help guide the shift cables down toward the opening. But the hook shaped wire should be enough.

Thats a good idea and how often do you change?
What I do, is tie some thin fishing line to the end of the old cable, & add some super glue to the knot. Then you can pull the old cable out & the fishing line through. Cut the line off the old cable, repeat on the end of the new cable & pull back through. Easy.
I change them pretty much right after they break ;-). Or in this case, the most recent time I re did the cables, in a moment of complete insanity, I decided to drill freaking holes into the top tube of the bike and route the cables behind the stem. I always hated the way the cables went in from the sides, and now they enter from the top, which looks amazing, shifts better, and should save approximately 0.000001 seconds due to aerodynamic gains as well!
Ah ok, so in otherwards your saying there really isnt a point? i have some fray on my front brake and front derailleur but its got the end cap and crimped so its not fraying anymore but as far as function i doubt it has an effect.
I am not necessarily saying there isn’t a point, just that it’s kind of a pain in the a** to change the cables… if mine were frayed I would change them, I think.
not awful because its pinched at the nut but if i were to undo it all and let it sit and took off the end id bet it fray. part of me just likes to put new things on the bike or change things out to know its fresh cables and i want to change the cock pit too.
even though logically it probably wont make a differnce.
