I am looking to buy some 165 cranks, but most of the ones I am finding are for track bikes. Are these different than the ones I would use on my tri bike? When I do find some, do I need to get a new bottom bracket or can I keep the one that I already have?
anybody know?
I’m running one of the “track cranks” just fine. Really, they are just inexpensive ones with a 110mm bolt circle and square taper holes, which is how we fastened cranks for about 100 years before we had bb30, isis and whatever shimano calls their outboard bearings. Do a search for square taper bb in Nashbar and you will come up with a shimano un54 bb. I’m using a 107mm with my set of 165s but you might need to go with something a little longer if you use larger (42 or 44 inner chainrings). The chainrings need to be 110mm bolt circle.

Thanks, that helps a ton!
