Changing a Powertap wired to wireless hub possible?

Does anyone know if Saris has a way of switching a wired PT hub to be wireless? I know you would obviously need a different computer (which I already have), I was just wondering if this is even possible. If so how much? Has anyone done this?

If you have carbon windows on the hub they can just swap the internals. I did it in November and it was $400 I think, this included a new softpack with computer, HR strap, etc. If thehub doesn’t have carbon windows they will do it but it’s more money I think. Call them, they are great to talk to and work with.

Carbon windows? can you explain?

I believe the 2006 - 2008 versions have the carbon windows.

Saris is no longer supporting the all aluminium hub shells (eg the ones w/o carbon windows). So yes, they’ll “convert” them at a higher price by selling you an all new wheel. They quit supporting those hubs about a year ago. Really, the newer design is much better, I’m very impressed with it.

Hmmmm… It appears from the Saris website that the new Pro+ and Elite+ models have all alloy hub shells. The SL+ and SLC+ have the carbon windows.

Right, but there is an older model that has completely different hub dimensions that Saris no longer supports. It’s very quickly going to get very difficult to figure out what hub someone is talking about

i just got off the phone with saris, and asked during the conversation about converting my hub to a wireless one. the guy told me it would be between 600-1300 depending on the model i chose! that’s almost like buying a brand new hub in the first place.

It IS buying a new hub- depending on exactly which hub you use, saris in actuality just sends you a new hub rather than replacing the innards.

Im a big fan of the saris program, but calling it an “upgrade” is a bit misleading- its more of a “loyal previous user new equipment discount.”
