I thought you could transfer to a different event in the same year. Does anyone understand the recent change?
You used to be able to. In 2008, I entered IM Canada through a CF slot. In April, my training was coming along nicely so I wanted to do an earlier race. Emailed NAS and switched to IMCDA, two months earlier. I guess they are not allowing that anymore.

This is an e-mail reply I got when I asked:
“You may only transfer to the event you are signed up for, for the following year. We have had a lot of athletes signing up for Community Fund spots just to get into the more popular races. This transfer policy is only good for one transfer, so if you do it once and decide not to race again you will have to eat the money.”
Not sure I understand the rationale for this, since under the old rules, you could only transfer to another race IF Community Fund spots were still available…
