Change battery in Polar HRM

after 2 years, time for a change. do i really have to send this thing back to the factory? or can i have the local watch kiosk at the mall change the battery?

Yes, you can have someone else change the battery, and if it leaks the next time you are in the water it will be ruined and you will have to drop another $200+ on a new one, OR you can send it in, pay a few bucks more, be without it for a few days and have it certified waterproof.

If you do it yourself, just make certain you get it sealed back properly. Changing the battery was easy, I wish I had paid a little more attention to how well I had screwed the back plate on. Mine is wasted. For future reference, any others have success? I just think I wasn’t careful enough.

I’ve had a battery changed in 2 HR watches. One time it worked, the other it didn’t. The time it broke I didn’t even have to jump in the water to find out. I brought it home and the watch had an error code on it so I called the manufacturer and they said the watch was toast. The store was kind enough to give me my $10 back at least???

I’d say if your watch is worth 3x the cost of mailing it in to get a battery replaced then I would say mail it in and do it right. I say 3x the cost bc if the watch died the heart strip may die (I am NOT from the manufacturer so that is just my personal assumption). I bought my HR watch on super sale for $40 so I was willing to take the gamble. I hope this helps

I just changed the battery in my S725 last week, the 3rd one I’ve replaced myself. It’s really a piece of cake. Not much to it and it runs perfectly, 5 years old now.

i wussed out and sent it back to polar. $20 or so plus shipping.

There’s always the next time. By my score, mine needs to be replaced about once a year. The clue for me that it needs to be replaced is that I start having trouble with downloading data via IR.

The biggest problem I’ve had is finding the right battery locally. This last time, I couldn’t find anywhere that had the right battery (CR2354). However, I did score 5 on eBay for $10, a tough deal to beat.
