My guess is Eagleman is wetsuit illegal most of the time. It look likes last year it was legal. We’ve had a cooler Spring on the East this year so not sure if this plays into it. Any chance this is wetsuit legal?
There is a small chance based on previous history. That cool spring so far won’t have enough influence to say so. It’s the weather the 10 days or so leading up to the race that will make make it go one way or the other.

hoping it’s wetsuit legal too. A great PR course with a greater chance of PR with wetsuit legal weather. Just depends on race week and a few weeks before. Right now I’d guess 50/50.
Sorry to change the subject, but anyone know if they are going to allow camping at the local high school? I believe they offered this for IMMD this past year, but I didn’t see any notice of this for this coming 70.3??

Anyone know where to get water temps for Eagleman?
NOAA buoy in the river.
NOAA buoy in the river.
Well, done, sir. Well done!
There’s a NOAA buoy there: https://tidesandcurrents.noaa.gov/ofs/ofs_station.shtml?stname=Cambridge&ofs=cb&stnid=8571892&subdomain=0
.
The cutoff is 76.1 for wetsuits not 78 if you want to contend for awards BTW.
Based on the weather predicted for next week I can’t imagine the water gets above 76.1 by race day. It supposed to be in the high 60 low 70s most of the week with some rain.
Reviving this old thread. This will be my first time doing Eagleman ~ a month from now. Seeing the NOAA buoy reading 70.2 currently. Is the expectation that this will NOT be wetsuit legal? Ive only ever gone wetsuit or Tri-suit, but am considering a swim skin
It’s usually very close. It’s been legal all but 1 of the I think 4 times I’ve done it. Of course, that 1 time was last year lol
You revived the thread to ask the question that was already answered in the thread. Race is a month away and the weather can change drastically. There is no given with this race. Gotta be prepared for both options.
Wasn’t intended to be a jerk. Though I understand how it can come off that way. The poster acknowledged they checked the buoy and saw the temperature was low 70s. There’s still four weeks. And the unpredictability of the weather for this time of year won’t change. Spring time is notorious for that in the region.
I did the race three times back in the early 2010s where it was called the morning of twice and coached people recently for it. It has always been a toss up.
As for my contribution, I reiterated that one must be prepared for both. Some races are just like this whereas others are more likely a given.
Sorry all good, I deleted my comment. You’re absolutely right this is one of those races that is always right on the edge of how the weather will fall. Gotta be ready for it to go either way.

No worries! I can understand athletes anxiety as races get closer, especially first timers. Weather is just one of those things I wish they would ignore because they can’t change it. I’m not saying it can’t change their plans on race day; but weeks out I’d rather they nail their nutrition and sleep and only worry about the weather 48 hours before when the concerns can be put into action.
My favorite part about that race was the hotel lol.
Yup totally understood its up in the air and highly dependent on a number of factors. I was just looking for some thoughts given the current water temp with 1 month to go. My best guess is that its very close but was looking for others who might live in the area, have experience racing here etc.

I understand where you’re coming from and wish a confident answer could be given based on previous outcomes. But like the thread covered, based on previous outcomes there really can’t be many thoughts this far out. As posters above noted, the 10 days leading up to the race can be extreme enough to raise the temp or extreme enough to lower the temp. We’re currently 30 days out. A lot can happen to that specific body of water in that location at this time of year.
Do you have specific concerns if it is or is not wetsuit legal?
No concerns just wondering if this is finally the reason to go out and get a swimskin for the handful of times I can’t wear a wetsuit. Doing it a month out gives me some time to get used to it……basically I should probably bite the bullet and just get one regardless
