Challenge Pro Field Survey

Not sure I saw this posted anywhere but Challenge put out a survey about pro athletes at their races and the prize purses involved.

Kind of interesting that they would do this. If you think I have an agenda in posting this, I do not. ST is always ranting about whether pros are worth it or not and I really haven’t seen this survey posted anywhere except Challenge Family’s twitter account. So, might be worth to “weigh in.”

  1. Do you think prize money for professional athletes is adequate?
(Challenge Family events offer US$66,000 for full distance and US$33,000 for half distance, paying equally to male and female top 10)

The first question is a little ambiguous. I’m assuming that the 66k and 33k are spread out among the top 10. I wish they detailed out how much each person gets based on their place. Without that information, I don’t feel like I can answer the question.

I am not sure how standard it is, but the winner of a Challenge $33,000 race gets $5,500. It pays out to at least 7th place I know ($550).

I hope this is a good sign that Challenge USA is considering bringing back the pro prize purses to the races-formerly-known-as-Rev3.

With the move away from pro support in the States by both WTC and Rev3, it would be nice to see Challenge fill that void.

In the survey I voted that professionals provide significant value to races and hope that others do the same. I think the fact that races continue to use professional athletes in their promotional materials (despite funding a pro purse) is evidence enough that they provide ROI and are worth the investment.

Thanks for posting! It is awesome that they take so much stock in what their consumers (age group triathletes) think.

Atlantic City paid 10 deep, pretty sure New Albany did (or was supposed to) the same?

(or was supposed to) the same?

hahaha best joke of the day so far!

Yea, the pay was allocated for 10 spots.
