Chainsets: SRAM Force Vs Dura-ace 7800

Currently using a BB30 to BSA bottom bracket adaptor along with a dura ace ace 7800 chainset.

Been offered a 2010 SRAM force BB30 chainset at a good price and can’t decide whether to make the switch (its a BB30 frame).

I’m guessing the force setup would be lighter. Would it be stiffer though? Or would it be in a sense, ‘a downgrade’ ?

I dont think you can go wrong staying with the DA. Tried and true right? I am thinking about going with a wipperman with connex on it for ease of cleaning and smoother shifting. Just not sure if it will work with the D.A. , FSA compact Light , Qring combo. But I guess if you dont try you do not know. You can always go back.

You won’t notice any “stiffness” difference in those levels of cranks unless you are a 1400W sprinting/track monster.

But, the BB30 system can save about 1/2 lb and gives a narrower Q-factor and that may be worth the “upgrade”.

A 7800 crankset is marginally better than Force… However, BB30 is better than running that 7800 crankset with the adapter. So, you’ll either be the same, or maybe a little better going to a true BB30 crankset. Going to a new dura ace or Red BB30 would be the best of both worlds.

Run the Force BB30, you wont regret it. The stiffness difference will be marginal and you will benefit from less weight and a smoother bearings.

I am running a force BB30 set with everything else 7900. Could not justify the extra hundred buck for Red when they are essentially the same weight anyhow. I like the BB30 but do not think that I could possibly “feel” the difference in any set up. Shifts great.

If they were each non BB30 cranks, the Force would probably be a downgrade from the 7800.

However, since BB30 cranks are usually slightly stiffer, possibly lower Q factor, lighter and you get to stop running an adapter; I would personally make the switch.

Just put a connex link in your DA chain. That’s what I do and it works perfectly.

Same here. I use a connex link with my Ultegra chain and it works great. I’ve been using a connex link with my Shimano chains for several years now.
