What’s the general guideline regarding how many miles you put on your bike before changing the chain rings? I’ve always changed my chain and rear cassette at the same time, but I haven’t changed my chain rings yet. Also, do you routinely change both rings, or just the big ring (assuming you ride in the big ring the majority of the time)?
I ride 12-15,000 km per year. Several bikes but some get most of the miles. I’ve had campy cranks with well over 25,000 km on them that were OK. On the other hand, I used to change out the rings on my commuter every couple of years. Cheap stuff and ridden through all conditions.
If they look like sharks’ teeth, replace your chainrings. Otherwise, leave them on.
