Chain/gear skip on SRAM Apex

I’ve been having an issue lately with my chain skipping and my SRAM Apex rear derailleur skipping gears whenever I change wheels on my Trek Speed Concept 7.0. I use one wheel for when I use my trainer and the other for the road. The cassette for my trainer wheel is a SRAM PG1050 11-28 10-speed, and a SRAM PG1070 12-25 10-speed for my road wheel. I switch these wheels out for each other probably 2-3x/week and usually it is worst with the trainer wheel on.

I recently brought the bike to the shop and they fixed the issue and I had no issues on my long road ride this morning. However when I put my trainer wheel on to prep for my indoor rides this upcoming week, it was skipping the chain and gears all over again.

Has anyone had this issue?? If so, do you know how to make it shift/ride smoothly even with multiple wheel changes?

Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Train well and be fast,

the cassette on your trainer wheel is spaced differently. check to see if both cassettes have a spacer or not.

Both appear to have the same width. I didn’t notice any difference in spacers.

It’s entirely normal for the spacing to be off between different wheels. Not every wheel is exactly the same, they can be off by a millimeter or two and that’s all it takes. Give the barrel adjuster a few turns to adjust the shifting and you’re good to go. I do this every time I swap wheels.

That was it! Just a little tension adjustment and it was good to go.

Thanks so much!
