Chafing... (1)

Been battling/suffering pretty bad the last couple weeks. Tried Neosporin, A&D, Gold Bond and even Boudreax’s Butt Paste (for babies diaper rash).

Any ideas?

Keep it clean and give it an occaisional breather from all the medication. Tea tree oil at night, nothing else is something to try.

Taking a sits bath is a good idea as well, if the problem is below your equator.

Then back on the ride/run, add in a good dolop of “Bariere” cream or another high silicone protectant cream to the tender parts. Check your gear for any unusual wear and adjust positioning on bike accordingly. Wear on the gear may also be what is causing some of the problems. Try not to be in your gear any longer than you need to after the ride.

Good luck, and please do not post any pictures.

Bag Balm tends to stay on really well during events - it’s thick, so it might provide some longer term relief on the bike or run.

No worries…No pictures will be posted

Where do you find Bag Balm?

Wal-mart in the pet section.

So I assume it goes on your bag??? Just kidding. I just got over a pretty bad stint of it also. I was pretty worried with IM in 4wks and it was getting worse. I ended up trying Desitin. I loaded up so much that is was coming through the shorts, but it worked. Also, did some birthday suite sleeping it it cleared up after about 2weeks. Managed 100mi last weekend with no problems again.

Bodyglide works well for me.

Found a couple new spots that need it, on my long run Sat.

Feed stores, some pharmacies and Home Hardware stores carry it. I’ve also seen it at EMS stores and the odd REI. It’s actually made for cow’s udders, but works wonders for long distance events. It’s a ‘secret ingrediant’ for many 24hr MTB racers and bike tourers, because of it’s staying power. It’s a bitch to get off though, so try it on a ‘not so favorite’ pair of shorts first.

Desetin (also for diaper rash) works great
